Is the Mad Hun still around?

… cause all I have to say to him is:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Celtic 6 Rangers 2 FT

(the European dopers will understand … apologies to the rest of yous ;))

Cripes, ruadh, Celtic is running up scorelines on Rangers like the ones they were running on us (“us” being Aberdeen FC, the only club that can finish last and still not get relegated). So, when you guys play us, the score will probably be, what, 11-0?

Just for a change, hope Celtic win the SPL this year. But, next year, can we have our league back, please???

You’ll have your Mickey Mouse league back soon Duke, the North Atlantic League will be up and running in a few years and I for one can’t wait to be playing the likes of Ajax and Sporting Lisbon every week instead of, erm, Aberdeen

and yes, I was very drunk when I posted that last night !!!

ruadh, I don’t need to worry about the Old Firm leaving the SPL. By the time that happens Aberdeen will probably have long been relegated, to play in Division One against local rivals like Ross County and Inverness CT. WHOA! Did I just mention Inverness Caledonian Thistle? That just might be a sore point there (3-1)

I think yesterday wiped away all previous sore points … besides we’ve got rid of the jokers who were running the club (well, apart from the head joker, Allan MacDonald) at the time of the Caley debacle.

Anyway in all sincerity I do hope you stay up. Any team whose fans sing “We hate Rangers more than you” can’t be all bad!

You’re right, ruadh, we do hate Rangers more than you! Unfortunately, we have not managed to get rid of the man largely responsible for our last season’s debacle (i.e. the entire last season), Ebbe Skovdahl. Where on earth did we get him from? He’s the only manager I’ve ever heard who’s blamed his team’s losses on being “underprepared.” And who was supposed to be preparing them, I wonder? I’ll bet he’s only manager because he was at the airport wearing a long coat when the real manager was supposed to show up. The administration at Pittodrie is just too embarrassed to admit its mistake.

I know Celtic have already been through this (“Dr.” Josef Venglos), but you have the money to hire real managerial talent (I think O’Neill is one of the best managers in British football) plus world-class players. Aberdeen, on the other hand, is known for being one of the cheapest clubs around, and probably has the cheapest fans too. I’d go and drown my sorrows, but if I was following the true Aberdeen spirit I’d have to go drown them with tap water.

He is a doctor, actually, and I certainly don’t consider him an embarrassing mistake (hey, we did beat Rangers 5-1 under his watch!). We’d been managerless for a couple months and our options were very limited. And he has got a great understanding of the technical aspects of the game - unfortunately, that doesn’t count for much in a league where physical strength more often carries the day. It’s too bad he’s retired from coaching as I still think he has a lot to offer someone else.

Now Barnes on the other hand, that was an embarrassing mistake.

All the money in the world isn’t going to bring world-class players to the SPL, though. That’s why we’ve got to get out of it.

Bought a new toaster yet?

We chased Mr O’Neil around plenty but had to put up with Mr O’Leary.

Since then the paths of Leeds and Leicester have diverged somewhat.

Don’t get too cocky someone might come in with a better offer, it happened to us and we had European Champions league to offer and plenty of money for players.

Guess he wants to be a big tree in a small forest

No, ruadh, I think I’ve been toasted enough already. But being an Aberdeen fan prepares you for it. Say, can’t we gang up on another club, like Motherwell or something? They deserve a toasting for their purple-and-yellow strip.

Ah well, can’t win them all, heck, can’t win any of them if you’re Aberdeen.

BTW, since I’ve now been toasted twice by you (once in a thread about Northern Ireland) are you now my bête noire? Only ~90 posts into SDMB and I have a shadow.

Well, IIRC, Aberdeen was the last non-Glasgow team to win the Premier Division, so you can’t be all bad. I’d bet some Scottish soccer fans would be secretly happy to see a non-Old Firm squad take top spot. (I remember, according to my Rothmans’, that there was a patch from 1904 to 1947 except for one year, that either Rangers or Celtic won the First Division. That must have been painful for other supporters.)

(My favorite team in the National Hockey League, over here, has won very little in over 30 years, so perhaps I can empathize with you…)

Well you did knock the huns out of the League Cup last season.

A shadow? Moi? I was in this thread first!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! 6-2, a great game and a considerable amount to drink!! There is no better way to spend Sunday!!

ruadh: we may have beaten Rangers in the League Cup last year, but then they turned out what was practically an Under-21 side against us (I guess they were playing in Europe that week). Unfortunately they got our revenge for us in the SFA Cup Final, not least by ensuring that Old Jim Leighton’s dentist got some extra work.

Also, the shadow thing…it just seems like, whenever I post something silly or boastful, there is ruadh to tick me off. I have this nightmare that, in my forthcoming Ph.D exam, my supervisor will say something like, “Good morning, Greg, this is the internal examiner, Dr. Brigden, and this is the external examiner, Ruadh.” Auuugh!

Aberdeen’s League title in 1984-85 (not to mention their Cup-Winner’s Cup in 1983) would have been more relevant to me if I hadn’t only been following them since I first came to the UK in 1991. (How I started following them is a long story for another time.)

Slight hijack, but this thread is really boosting my post count! The champagne (oh, all right, sparkling white wine) is on ice for my 100th post party!

Is it just me or where the SkySports commentators unbelievably biased in favour of Rangers?

you also see the same thing happen when Man Utd. play.

John, you couldn’t even hear the commentators where I was watching the game (Frazers), such was the volume inside the pub!
