My phone has been playing up recently, and I’ve been looking at buying a tablet. I really like the idea of the Padfone, both how it works, and the idea of only needing one account for both the phone and the tablet.
Has anyone had experience with it? is it worth it?
You can use one phone account with many phone/tablet combinations. Have a data plan on your phone, and use it as a personal wifi hotspot for the tablet.
Or go with a very well-engineered midrange option like a Galaxy Note II. If you don’t mind a phone that’s on the larger side, I’ve found the Note to be a very adequate tablet as well.
I’ve seen this - does the tablet part work independently? If not, what’s the point, isn’t it better to get a phone and separate tablet? When they’re combined, you can’t use the phone screen.
Not worth it. At all. I don’t know why there was a little “mini trend” for companies to make phones that docked into a tablet (Blackberry had one, Motorola had one, Asus had/has one,) but it’s terrible all around.
You’re better off just getting a new phone and tablet separately. If you tell us the carrier, we can offer a range of choices. If you want to go with Android, which is what the Padphone runs, I’d say the Galaxy S4 or the HTC One are the best choices (I have the One and love it.)
A Nexus 7 tablet can be had for $230 - $270, depending on whether you want 16 GB or 32 GB of internal memory. Since the New Nexus 7 just came out, you might be able to find the old Nexus 7, but still new in box, for $150-$200. I have one, and it runs everything just fine. If you want a larger tablet, there’s also the Nexus 10.
