I can’t ever recall seeing footage of any US President interviewed by the TV media. There are questions asked by various reporters at press conference questions, but what about proper face-to-face interviews?
Tony Blair frequently appears on TV shows - usually serious news programmes - although two weeks ago he took part in a sports show called “Football Focus” on Saturday morning TV.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer was on a morning “sofa-show” this week to talk about the new budget proposals.
Even Maggie Thatcher used to go on daytime sofa-TV to be interviewed, as well as speaking with more high-brow current affairs shows. There’s a famous clip of Maggie being vigourously taken to task by a viewer over the sinking of the Belgrano during the Falklands campaign.
So yes, it’s v. common to see the UK PM on the TV news.
I’m not sure the Queen has done many interviews - she’s taken part in some “fly-on-the-wall” programmes about Windsor Castle, but never addressed the camera directly.
Prince Charles is often on TV being interviewed, as was Diana.
Princes William and Harry will be taking part in a show with popular light-entertainment duo Ant ‘n’ Dec in a few weeks’ time, apparently.
U.S. presidents periodically give one-on-one interviews with the media, be it newspaper, news magazine, or television. Apparently you haven’t seen them in Sydney.
