Is the State of Missouri is gonna elect a DEAD guy for US Senator!!!

Would you want Tipper to be the President?

Discuss…

I mean really, how would you handle that?

I the consensus is YES, you are all fucking idiots…

Read what I said originally, and what I just posted. Don’t lump me in with all this other fucked-up shit going on here!

I feel it is disrespectful for the process to leave a deceased person on the ballot.

I feel appointing a person with little political savvy and/or experience can lead to a “puppet government” situation, regardless of how well-intentioned all parties are.

I feel it gives a huge sympathy vote unfairly against the other candidate.

I recognize it is the law of the land. I just think it is a poor one.

These are opinions. I don’t think they are disrespectful or too outlandish. This is not a Democrat or Republican thing. That’s all.

He is currently running very soft-spoken, positive, self-and-program-promoting ads. They show him performing community service, working in a soup kitchen, etc. Not one even slightly negative word, or mention of the late Governor.

So we are all fucking idiots.

Please Origato, take your name off being known as a Libertarian.

Your logic is ludicrious and your thinking leads me to believe you have nothing better to do that squack (sp) about politics but have no positive words to say as to how this can be handled. You bitch but have no sane alternatives. You complain but have not one constructive thing to say.

Please, if you really are a Libertarian, relinquish your membership now because people like you make me sick. Libertarian principles discuss in great detail about not provoking a fight until one is forced. You are forcing your assholeness against the people of this board.

You get your panties in a wad over other people explaining to you that the laws are as such. Regardless if this is a senate or presidential race we are bound by the laws until someone gets in to change them.

Please, do us Libertarians a favor and claim you are something else, you shame me and my fellow Libertarians with your actions.

If Gore was killed after he was elected, Liberman would become President. Were Liberman killed, it would pass to the Speaker of the House. Next in line is the President of the Senate, then it goes on through various cabinet officials, beginning with the Secretary of State.

Not the best of analogies, really.

While I agree that it’s disrespectful, they’re doing things per mandate… and the widow doesn’t seem to object.

Cecil said it first…

Can’t provide the reference, but Mr. Cecil Adams called a correspondent a ‘pimple’ years ago.

Think of some original to insult someone, oh sucker of wart-hog’s dicks and nipples…

Yes, I agree that is a good system. But here we have two completely different systems. In the Federal example, power and control pass to a co-elected official (the VP) or an elected official with experience (almost certainly, in terms of the Speaker and the President of the Senate) or an appointed official with experience (hopefully, in terms of the Cabinet personnel).

In the Missouri example, a person who may or may not have any experience or qualifications is appointed.

I agree with you - it is the law of the land after all, and she seems amenable to it. But I just don’t think it’s the best way they could handle it.

Origato,

As odd as this sounds, I have never read a Cecil Adams book, my claim to fame as to finding this board is through another poster. I have never seen or heard anyone else calling anyone a penis pimple…if I did it was in passing so as far as I am concerned it’s original to me.

But I still wish you would take it upon yourself and renounce your Libertarian status. You work more along the lines with other political figures I dare not bring up in here.

  1. If Gore gets elected president and dies, Vice President (assuming Gore presidency) Joe Lieberman takes over, not Tipper.

  2. If Gore dies tomorrow, whatever the law states is what happens. If people have a problem with that, they try to draft legislation to amend problems with current legislation.

What problem do you have with Tipper Gore?

First of all, my name is “friedo,” not “Fredo.” Secondly, I don’t know where you get your justification for the misanthropic and idiotic ramblings that have been the staple of your posts in this thread thus far. I don’t know how you arrived at the conclusion that I am an “ignorant fuck,” when I am the one who has cited facts, not opinions, remained civil, not vomitted forth the verbal fecal matter of a misguided and severely underdeveloped political aptitude.

The people know precisely who they are voting for. If they yank the democratic lever, they are voting for Mel Carnahan. Since he’s dead, someone gets appointed to fill his spot. This is not a new or unorthodox practice.
Keep in mind that the Governor has not made an appointment as yet, he has merely announced the name of the person he plans on appointing should the need arise. Your characterization of Carnahan’s wife as a “bitch” is further proof of your mental and societal ineptitude. Though entirely inconsequential to the topic at hand, if you must know, I, too am a devout Hillary hater. But the two people have nothing in common.

No, this is how the system works:

Missouri Constitution, Article IV Section 4.

Often, a name must be kept on the ballot because it would be unfair to the other candidates to remove it. A case that has occured before is where:

  1. the ballots are already printed. Removing the candidate would involve actually crossing him out

  2. If the candidate was, say, the second, or second-to-last on the ballot, then crossing him (/her) out would give an unfair advantage or disadvantage to the isolated candidate. For example, if the (not so intelligent) masses get a ballot and see one name under “senate”–not noticing the other names below because of the space–that candidate is likely to pull a lot of votes they wouldn’t otherwise.

One particular case of this (on a local level) resulted in the candidate (who would have lost pension benefits had he been elected) having to run a “don’t vote for me” campaign.

So there may be a damn good reson for the laws, you see…

** Origato: ** please do us all a favor and consider corrective surgery to remove that bublous mound you call a head from your gaping rectum. I realize that the fumes may be clouding your vision, so I’ll just assume the vomit that loaded onto my moniter was just a massive typo on your part.

(sound of the door closing as I leave this train wreck of a thread, having hopefully explained my point by now…)

Other than express an opinion…

I am going to love taking you motherfuckers down, one by one…

Montfort… degrading yourself worldwide as (AS A COCKSUCKER) as result of a bet with Satan only shows me you’re are a weak willed fuckhead.

TechChick68… you really need to get laid. I’m am the most intense Libertarian you ever met, how dare you question my credentials!

Antracite still has it right, but is afraid to buck the crowd, pussy!

Fredo or Friedo… (or is it supposed to be Frodo) Spell it wight!

Numerous other posters, JUST BECAUSE IT’S THE LAW DOESN’T MAKE IT RIGHT! That’s the whole point of the post, you stupid idiots!!! We are Libertarians, don’t you know.

God, move this to GD where we can get some intelligent answers…

I will take any motherfucker on this board on in an intelligence test, if that’s what it takes… I don’t toe the party line.

Well, I think you just lost, by failing to realize that you can’t really “take someone on” in an IQ test. Sure, you can compare results, but that harly lacks the panache of a really good head-to-head.

Twit.

I fail to see how the ability to test well indicates overall intelligence in an area such as politics, dear, stupid, Origato.

What type of intelligence were you hoping to test? You might first check to see if you have any.

From your actions tonight Origato, you are not a true Libertarian. If you were you would bow down and realize that your actions here, with regards to people giving you facts, are wrong. If you responded in a manner that doesn’t look like a primitive man pulling his woman by the hair we might agree. But you gave everyone here the ammunition to respond to your juvenile attacks.

Your comment:

is so damned against Libertarian principles it shocks me. You are a vile little person that needs shock therapy. You provoked people here, you can’t handle it, you take it out further on those that reply to this thread. Deal with it bud, you fucked up and you can’t swim without sinking here…You sucked yourself into a hole you can’t get out of without feeling like a complete ass. Keep the thrashing up as you will not survive this one, much like a fish out of water, it wont do any good.

I feel sorry for you because you seemingly need to lash out at those who were trying to get you to see what the facts were. You don’t get that and I am still asking you to take your name from the Libertarian Party’s list of people who support it…

Look Origato, I don’t know what you have been smoking or drinking but your attitude is amongst the most disgusting I have seen in a long time. I have seen better flames from people that don’t threaten but mearly (sp) tell it like it is.

You putz.

< now this is all a game to me cuz I am not upset over him, more amused at his responses >

I think she was questioning your credentials because you try to shout people down and insult them like a little petty authoritarian.

As opposed to those strong willed people who back down from promises they made, right? And since when is being a cocksucker degrading? I can think of a few guys around here who would consider it an accurate description.

As another libertarian, I have to agree that the Libertarian Party should definately be spending more energy whining and swearing and insulting people over the vital issue of how Nebraska conducts senatorial races where one candidate dies after it is too late to remove him from the ballot. And to think of those unimportant matters we’re wasting out time discussing.

Yes, as a libertarian, I now declare that the highest priority in politics at the moment is to publicly and loudly denounce Mel’s widow as a bitch. And those who disagree with me are cocksuckers. Wow, I feel the brilliance that was promised when I adopted Origato’s method of intelligent and rational debate.

Who have I insulted unless provoked? You, dipshit, called me a ‘pimple’ in an earlier thread:

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=41827

Well, welcome to the PIT.

You called me me a penis-pimple! You call that reasonable discussion? Is this the way your mother taught you to converse? You are a bigger fucking idiot than I thought.

I was going to say more, but I’m too tired to fight with the likes of you tonight…

Origsatyo

Errm… Nebraska, Missouri, it’s all the same to me.

Well, I for one think you should pass it off as a psychological experiment.

Off to perfume my crotchal area now . . .
[sub]I don’t mean to insinuate that Origato is Serlin, but it’s still damned amusing:)[/sub]
