Is there a CSI spin-off? (old spoiler)

Please excuse the fact we get your TV series much later over here in the UK.

I look forward every Saturday to an immensely enjoyable double bill of CSI, followed by Law and Order.
Jolly good entertainment - well done you chaps!

I just saw an episode of CSI where a serial killer of rich couples flees Vegas and winds up in Florida.
Our heroes then encounter a full team of CSI operatives in Florida (including an ex-cop from NY, and a junior White House Republican lawyer  ).

The spiffing dialogue led me to believe a spin-off might be planned.
And that’s where you lot from across the pond come in.

Does CSI (Miami) exist?
Is it planned?

(I haven’t been this excited since Angel span-off from Buffy! )

yes. and with those in that script (the red headed actor from NYPD Blue, greatly overrated IMHO, as well as the dark haired woman who recently left NYPD Blue and had a failed lawyer series)

Yes, it will be starting this fall.

Ta for the responses.

Wring,

I knew about David thingy (redhead), and the long-haired blonde who is in the West Wing.

Which actress were you referring to?

the dark haired one that was married to Bobby. She left NYPD recently (I’m blanking on her name - Kim something ?)

Wring,

thanks for that - it could be Kim Delaney (who is a favourite of mine!).

No, wring, I think you’re getting them mixed up. It’s Emily Proctor, who played Ainsley Hayes on The West Wing, who will be on the show. I hadn’t heard there was another NYPD alum on the show. We also have Peter Benton’s (ER) sister as a coroner. David Caruso, the redhead from the first season of NYPD Blue, will be the Gil Grissom of Miami.

Oh, and Glee, sit down. There’s another series from Jerry Bruckheimer (he created CSI) called Without a Trace or something. It focuses on missing persons.

coulda sworn the Kim thing was a new one announced, after her cancellation for the lawyer show. I wanted to say Kim Delaney, but I get the names (not the actors) mixed up between her and the one from China Beach.

here’s the scoop (don’t see who I’d have mistaken for Kim D)

ah - hah! found it. Kim’s on CSI Miami

Thanks, ivyglass and wring.

Ah, more CSI and Kim Delaney.

yea, glee but you have to put up w/David C at the same time, and I’m not convinced that’s do-able (at least in my case)

Now there’s a thread idea:

Horatio Caine or Gil Grissom?

Horation for the human interactions, Grissom (you have to call him by his last name  ) for anything involving bugs.

I’m another UK fan of CSI, which I think is an absoutely stunning show. Frankly, I just don’t know how they do it week after week. In your typical formula cop show, the heroes just happen to talk to all the rght people who provide all the right info that leads to all the right conclusions. But every episode of CSI calls for much more elaborate plotting and revelation, based on forensic detection and deduction. And the ‘special FX’ sequences, e.g. showing in slo-mo how the weapon damaged the body tissues, must be horrendously difficult to create week after week. Does this show have an unlimited budget or something?

Great news that a CSI Miami spin-off is in the works, although there’s no guarantee we’ll get it over here. I’m sorely dismayed that Caruso was in the CSI episode and also gets to helm the spin-off. Why do people keep giving this guy work? He sucked in NYPD Blue, and his finest contribution to that show was leaving it. His movie career tanked, not terribly surprisingly (anyone seen Jade? Total arse biscuits from start to finsh).

His next principal vehicle was Michael Hayes (not imported over here, thank Dog, but I saw a few episodes), where he sucked again and once more demonstrated all the range of an oak log. I don’t think the show was cancelled so much as given a mercy-killing. Now he gets to spoil CSI Miami.

Great news that Kim Delaney will also be involved, though. She kept me watching NYPD long after I’d otherwise tired of the show. It will be great to see her on our screens again if we do get CSI Miami. We didn’t get to see her recently canned Philly show, sadly.

Looks like I’m in the minority here about David Caruso. I always thought he brought an intensity to his performances that will serve him well in this new series. And that intensity didn’t carry over to the big screen, which is why he wisely put himself back onto TV.

I for one am looking forward to CSI Miami. It’s always good to see a Newsradio alum getting work, along with Slater from Dazed and Confused. Bring it on . . .
