Is there a email notification service to alert you when your favorite bands come to your town?

I realized that a couple bands that I like have come to my city on tour and I didn’t realize it until after the fact because they did not have heavy advertising. Is there a kind of email notification service that you can sign up for to alert you when your favorite bands come to your city, or within a certain number of miles of your city?

Ticketmaster has a Performer Alert:
Find out when your favorite performers will be in town. We’ll email you when they head your way.

Anyone have any idea of what percent of relevant events they would cover?
The major local event centers might have useful mailing lists.

also - Pollstar.

Try http://www.songkick.com
I have the app, and it seems to work pretty well.

Some bands have a “newsletter” that you can sign up for by email on their websites, or one of the local stations I listen to always has info, contests for tickets, etc., on their site.

I use Songkick too, it’s great. I highly recommend it.

Like/follow the bands on Facebook (assuming they have pages). You’ll likely get touring dates, media appearances, announcements, etc. from them in your newsfeed.

Does that alert you to all concert halls/venues? For example the tickmaster one, only alerts you to more major concert halls, and some of the bands I want to see are not in large concert halls, I saw a band early this month where I had to buy the ticket on ticketfly.com becasue that particular concert hall did not use tickmaster but other dates on that bands tour did use tickmaster but did not list their stop in my city, so I would have missed it If I had used that email alert service, luckily a friend told me they were coming to my town that time.

It’s pretty comprehensive. It has more venues than other apps/websites I’ve used before. It has the major venues, but also a lot of small bars and pubs listed. I looked for the Houston area on Friday, and it has 26 different concert venues listed with shows- definitely more than just the major places.

If there’s a certain band you don’t want to miss, then you should follow them on facebook, or get on their listserve, or set up a google alert with the band name and your city. I sometimes set up google alerts when I know a band will be touring soon so I can know to buy tickets the instant they go on sale. But mostly I just use Songkick and it keeps me pretty informed.

With google alerts do you get alot of false alerts if they happen to mention your city or spam?

I just posted this very question in CS a month or so ago. Bandsintown is what I ended up using. I don’t even have to put in the bands I want to see. It goes by the music that’s on my phone, and music that I might also like based on what’s on my phone. But you can put in bands manually if you want to be alerted and for some reason they don’t show up in your list automatically. It’s a pretty handy app.

I think you can link it to facebook too, and then it would show you all the bands you’ve currently “liked”, but I didn’t link it to my facebook, so I’m not 100% sure how that works…

I like this option because the other services only let you use one city. I follow all my favourite bands on facebook incase I’m willing to travel to see them.
Live nation is a good one for multiple cities.

I’d also recommend signing up for concert venues around you for their calendars.
