Is there a kosher version of the South Beach diet?

A family member recently started on the South Beach diet. This diet is full of lean proteins – such as ham, pork, shellfish, and non-kosher cuts of beef.

A search on Google for “kosher South Beach diet” turned up no useful links. The closest I got were recipe sites with both kosher and South Beach entries, and recipes using kosher salt.

Does anybody know of a good source for a kosher version of the South Beach diet?

Not the SB specifically, but a Google for “kosher low-carb diets” (no quotes) turned up a few promising leads.

Well, just because day 7 dinner says shrimp doesn’t mean you cant serve some other form of aquatic life like filet of sole. Just because day 8 says 4 oz pork medallion doesn’t mean you can’t substitute a lovely filet of turkey breast, and because it asks for [what kind of beef part isnt kosher? I though any muscle tissue could be rendered kosher by 1 proper butchering and 2 soaking in brine to remove the blood] some form of beef you can’t eat, you can sub in some nice kosher beef in a suitable portion size.

Really, use common sense. You know how annoyig it is to be SERIOUSLY allergic to mushrooms minorly allergic to coconut products, and absolutely DETEST bell peppers, zucchini and eggplant and get handed a menu plan? I swear most nutritionists absolutely live for adding mushrooms, zucchini and eggplant to every recipe they possibly can. Just because they pass out a menu plan doesnt mean you have to follow it exactly, you can change shellfish to regular fish, pork to some other meat [and turkey can be nice flavored with a lot of the same things pork can - ginger and plums is killer on both pork or turkey=)] and as I said, I have no idea what part of the cow is not kosher when slaughtered and prepared at the kosher meat packers, but feel free to sub in a proper portion of kosher beef - or post the recipe and we can see how to work around it=) All you really need to do for the south beach or any decent low carb menu is to watch portion sizes, and nutritional counts.

I think most people need to spend a month on a strict dietary control menu plan - like a diabetic plan to really comprehend how much they are actually overeating, and most people don’t understand portion control.

Again, what aruvqan, said.

With South Beach, you don’t need to follow the eating plan exactly. Those are guidelines and examples of the types of meals you should eat. They’re for people who can’t figure it out at all on their own, and are convinced that they’ll starve unless given step by step instructions on what to eat.

IIRC (it’s been over a year since I’ve tried this particular), you eat a ton of vegetables, almost no simple carbs, and lean protein. So, your family member would need to eat kosher versions of that. What are they eating before? Leave the low glycemic index vegetables, the leaner meats (poultry, perhaps with less fatty sauces, eggs, certain fish (don’t know which, I don’t eat fish), lamb, low-fat beef). Dump (or severly restrict) the carbs. And use portion control. (The book and website tell you how much)
