Is there a limit to how many concurrent logins to a Kindle account one can have?

Here is the deal.

I am a teacher and belong to a program that gives a free ebook to use for education purposes every month. Anyway, I finally got an ebook I want to use and thought about how to go about that.

Our school runs Apple computers and have the Kindle app installed. No, I did not see Ibook installed(are we behind somehow on that???). The application requires a Kindle login and I can not expect the kids to have a useable email or ask them to make one.

Anyway, my “theory” on how to do this is to:

  1. Make a quickie “Mahalothstudent1@blah.com” email to use.

  2. Use it to make an Amazon/Kindle account.

  3. Make the password different for the email and the Kindle access(security purposes).

  4. Then, let all my kids concurrently use their Kindle app using that one email and give them all the ebook to use. Yes, I’ve checked. Using multiple copies of the book is fine legally for education purposes.

Would this work? Or will it not work? If not, I suppose I have to make 30 “mahalothstudent@blah.com” accounts and assign one to each of them, but that is a pain.

Will they all be able to login to my student access Kindle account at the same time? I have up to 30 kids at a time doing this.

Oh, I tested it today and it worked with just 2 student accounts at the same time. I just don’t know if there is a limit.

Thanks!

The default limit is 6. You can have the same content on 6 different Kindle devices (or apps on different devices).

Some content has a limit of 2.

Where did you find this on their website? Is most copyrighted material DRM’ed, so to speak so it can’t be loaded up too much?

Like, do they stop you with public domain materials too? If I have a public domain file, does the Kindle not allow more than 6 logins at one time?

I don’t remember where I saw it originally, but it’s backed up by statements here.

I don’t know how it works with free books. I would suggest calling Amazon, they have great customer service and I wouldn’t be surprised if they had something set up for situations like this.

Thanks for being so helpful, but does this not contradict you? I’ll quote the third guy down.

So if the ebook contains no limitations on itself, should I not be able to login to…20 Kindle applications concurrently and read the same ebook, as long as a physical file of the ebook exists on that computer(and is a freely distributed ebook)?

I know, I know, I’m heading in the direction of just…you know, trying this on my own by conducting a test run, but I am not yet ready.

According to this, you can have unlimited kindle devices linked to one account, but the actual content is limited to a few devices at a time.

I don’t know how robust their protection of this idea is, but I doubt you can link a classroom of computers to one account and read the same book.

I still suggest calling them.

I’ll mess with it this week and call if I need more help. Thanks, too. You’ve been helpful.
