Is there a polite way to tell my internship advisoe to pay me?

With this as the soundtrack (prob NSFW, depending on your boss)

Or the more succint “fuck you, pay me.”

(NSFW, in case you couldn’t tell from the link text)

He’s a youtuber.

I think this is him also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RqMflGzRjY

I’m seriously surprised that CC talked his adviser into giving him 20 hours a week. First I’m surprised that CC is up for it, it seems like a big commitment for him. Second I’m surprised the adviser is up for it.

But since CC was able to do PhD level work at one point, maybe he’s able to do productive work on a reduced schedule that accommodates his needs. If he can do 8 hours a week he’ll probably be fine with 20. But just remember that you have to keep your employer advised of your scheduling needs. If you have a problem and can’t show up to work you need to let them know, not just disappear on them.

I hope I can…

You do what you have to.

In my 30s I worked two full time jobs. Looking back, I have no clue how I managed.

In my 40s I managed fine on one full time job, starting my own business and working my ass off initially to keep it afloat and pay off loans.

In my 50s and today I earn more each year than ever before. I work 4 - 5 hours a day and sometimes feel overworked.

Just try to maintain some perspective and realize how fortunate you are. There are people out there working 25, even 30-hour work weeks to make ends meet, and who get maybe half of your parental allowance.

Third world examples aren’t really helpful.:frowning:

Hey, I’ve been pretty hard on CCitzen at times but this time I’m fully supporting him. People have been giving him all sorts of advice about getting more independent and here is taking action to that end. Time will tell how well it goes but this is the first actual positive step he’s taken since being on this board, initiated on his own and followed through. Good for him!

Congratulations and best wishes. You’ve taken a productive step forward. Even if this particular arrangement does not work out, perhaps it will help you develop confidence about the process of seeking another job down the road.

Good luck. I will try to work 20 hr/week. I am full time Autistic (Aspie) with Moderate Depression. But I will work.

Thanks a lot! Will do my best.

It might suck at first but you’ll get used to it and soon it will feel normal.

I agree; I was disappointed when someone linked to a three-year-old thread in which CCitizen complained about the same thing, so I’m glad that this time he actually did something to change the situation.

And another thing; if you’re going to be spending twenty hours a week in the lab, try to interact with others there. If someone invites you to lunch, go with them. This sort of socialization is good for all of us, but I think would be particularly good for you.

Wow, CC! I don’t even know you and I’m proud of you!

Thank you – I hope it works out.

My lab is my home computer. Now my time online is limited.

Thanks a lot.
