aw COOL!
A million years ago when Bayless wrote for the Dallas Times Herald, he was an entertaining and thoughtful writer willing to take on the Dallas Cowboys media engine. Maybe that was a contrarianism and not grounded in real ideas (I don’t know either way), but it was practically unique in Dallas and it annoyed a lot of people while entertaining others.
He was also anecdotally a decent guy. He interacted in a positive way with a troubled friend of mine, and we all appreciated it.
Flash forward more than twenty years, and he’s a caricature of whatever he was then, and is truly hard to watch.
On the Aikman thing, what he talked about was the Switzer camp feeding him a running stream of rumors on Aikman, he didn’t say outright ‘Aikman is gay’. It might come to the same thing, and he could have been effectively trying to have his cake and eat it too, but that was the context.
Yes, and prior to that, I used to read his column about the Cowboys that the local paper ran every week. To a teenager, it was a good column about the team - and my father and grandfather both liked it too. I’m always a bit bemused when I hear about him today to think that it’s the same guy I enjoyed so much during the Cowboys’ 90s run.
