Is there a setting in IE that I can adjust to get more downloads at once?

I am running IE6 with some patches on it.

If I am on a webpage that has several files that are posted as links that I want to download (using “save target as”), IE has historically (same results with IE4 and IE5) only allowed you to download 2 at a time.

I’ve played around with a good portion of the settings in IE but I have never found anywhere to adjust this. Is it possible? Thanks in advance.

Are you comfy with tweaking your Registry? If not, don’t do this, as you can make your machine unbootable if you goof.

Start the Registry Editor
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Internet Settings
Select New > DWORD Value from the Edit menu
Name the new value MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server
Right-click the MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server value and choose Modify
Under Base, click the radio button next to Decimal
In the Value Data: box enter the number of simultaneous connections you want to set (for example 10 is a good value), and click OK
Repeat steps 3 - 7 using the new value MaxConnectionsPerServer
Exit the registry editor
Reboot

I’m riding the fence on being comfy with it. I did it once before for some WinXP performance tweaks but it generally gives me the heebs.

Thanks for the info!

I forgot to add - www.dslreports.com is crammed with info on maximizing broadband connections, with connection and tweakage tests, FAQs, tips and a message base. Where do you think I got this # of connections tweak?
