is there a Sid Meier's game that'll run on a laptop?

Another thing you could try is copying the contents of the CD/DVDs to a directory and installing from there, often install programs will run from hard drive. You’ll also see if Windows gives any error messages during the copy.

We do have a home network but I’ll be damned if I know how to work it. We just ended up putting them both on the desktop, which works well for me because the desktop is MY computer, so I get to play them whenever I want and the intended giftee has to wait until I’m not on it.

What sort of bugs? I’ve been playing it really smooth on my laptop (it does get a bit slow towards the endgame). What should I be looking for?

Out of the box the game had huge, huge problems with many video cards. Some computers it worked fine on; others the game would simply not load at all; others it would load but have bizarre graphics issues. You may have one of the graphics cards that work. It was completely non functional on probably thirty to forty percent of all computers.

The problems have since been fixed but still require patching. (Installing the Warlords expansion pack effectively patches it without the fuss and bother of downloading anything.)
