I’ll also add that hummus is also served on falafel, as well as in many other sandwiches (I like it with hot dogs). Also, technically speaking, hummus is a wipe, not a dip.
You should try going to an authentic ME restaurant. 
I live in the Middle East.
And almost every restaurant and felafel stand provides tahini by itself, ready to be poured on top of whatever you order—as a sauce, or a salad dressing.
