So basically there are some craft supplies that I MUST HAVE!!! ahem. So I have found a vendor online only they do not ship to Australia I was just wondering if there was someone who could let me borrow their address for the goodies to be shipped to, receive funds from me to cover the shipping and then send it on to me. I would be quite happy to reward this effort in some way (do you like socks - I am a sock knitting demon atm) anyway that would be negotiated.
I can probably help. I have an Australian friend here who ships to AU all the time. She still has bank accounts in Australia so we might not even have to worry about currency conversion. PM me.
I use Shipito, have used Price USA in the past but prefer Shipito because you can place orders yourself, consolidate packing and the range of shipping options is greater and cheaper. Very easy to use.
Be aware if you use USPS international if the ship weight if over 4 lbs you HAVE to use USPS Priority International which can almost double the shipping cost over International non-Priority.
Interesting variant of the Nigerian 419 Scam: “I am a mad Australian rabbit woman. Please to give me your address and I will send you many woolen sock”.
I was thinking it sounds like a variant of the Craigslist scam. I’ll have items shipped to your address and send you money plus a little extra for your time…
Seriously though. I hang out in a chat channel where a couple of knitters prattle on about their hobby. I can probably put you in touch with them to swap yarns, tips, and patterns.
Yes, I said prattle. Whatcha gonna do about it? Poke me with a needle?
sadly the stuff I want is no longer in production (sniff bye bye knifty knitter*), was always ridiculously expensive here any way and now I have found what I want at a discount price ( ie $2 vs $20). Mind you some of the stuff I would pay a premium for coz I will never be able to replace them. I am waiting to hear back from the seller to see if I can pay by paypal.
*(and yes I know I can get the generic rings now for not to much - it’s all the other bits n bobs I want - like replacement pegs)
Some things are available here, but at exorbitant costs - I’m waiting on a pair of Sorel boots retailing here for $180, purchased in the US for $60. Just got an Oakley ski jacket for $150, selling here for $500. Bought a Burley bike trailer for $400, selling here for over twice that.
Other shipments include clothing from companies like J Crew who will ship here but with a 30%+ markup, not including shipping.
Some boutique cosmetics and skin care brands, household goods like bed linen, kitchenware. Kids toys, technology, especially niche things - a cloth nappy snap press for example. If you can find them here, they will have an incredible markup.
Do you intend to send large checks to your US colleague and insist that they take part of it and wire it to the shipper? Do you require our Social Security and passport numbers to complete the background check for our honesty?
