One handy trick with gmail is that you can add a + before the @ and anything between the + and the @ is disregarded, but still shows up on the mail record so you can be clear where people got the email address from. I’ve got a problem with an automated system though, that is rejecting my emails from emailaddy@gmail.com because I signed up as emailaddy+product@gmail.com and they don’t match. Is there any way to make the outgoing message come from emailaddy+product@gmail.com?
Yes, there is.
From step 2, here:
On your computer, go to Gmail.
At the top right, click Settings.
Select the Accounts and import or Accounts tab.
In the “Send mail as,” click Add another email address.
In the window that opens, enter the name you want recipients to view.
Make sure Treat As An Alias is checked.
I just tried that and it appeared to work. An email I sent to myself (on another domain), showed up with the + portion, and when I hit reply, it was replying to the email with the + portion.
Just make sure when you compose the email, you click the drop down on the “from” line and change it to the email address you want it to come from.
In Settings, the General tab, you can
[ul]
[li]set up different signatures for each address and[/li][li]choose to reply from the same address (if it is on your list).[/li][/ul]
Be sure to click on the “Save Changes” button on the bottom of that page.
Make sure Treat As An Alias is checked
This isn’t a trick with GMail; this is part of the Internet’s e-mail specification. It will work with any standards-compliant e-mail client.
