The subject pretty much speaks for itself: are there sites where people can say “hey, if you liked Caramell, you might like Smile.dk” or “if you like Flash in a Pan, you might like egg custard”? It seems like it’d be simple to set up, with a little vote function (like Urban Dictionary) so that the most popular “ifs” could get boosted to the top.

It’s not so simple to set up. Even in the much more restricted realm of movie preferences, it’s been hard to set up a system that consistently gives good recommendations. So much so that Netflix has set up a prize for anyone who can develop a better one.

Pandora does this for music, and Google does it for webpages. I don’t know what category of thing the examples in your OP are, though.

Youtube does it for videos and music…
Amazon does it for pretty much all consumer products.
