Is there an air bubble behind my eardrum?

A few days ago, the left side of my jaw started hurting me each time I chewed. One day later, the pain was gone but instead, when I grind my left molars I feel this annoying pressure behind my eardrum as if there was an air bubble that I was compressing when I clenched the left side of my jaw. I’m a bit afraid of popping my eardrum if I clench really hard. So I waited for it to go away but it’s been there for 3 days now with no signs of going anywhere.

Now i’m not asking for medical advice and I do plan on seeing a doctor in a few days if this persists, but in the meantime, I was wondering if any of you is familiar with this odd symptom. Is it even possible to pop my eardrum by clenching my jaw too hard? I don’t know much about anatomy so I hope i’m not being too ridiculous.

It is probably congestion (only guessing since you will see a doc).

Taking a decongestant could help alleviate the pain, and help prevent infection by getting rid of moist conditions that germs like to breed in. If it isn’t congestion, you won’t have caused any problems.

If it feels like you shouldn’t bite hard, then don’t. Pain is usually a warning sign. Not saying you’ll bust a drum, but you might get some nasty headaches.

You might try yawning, which often opens the Eustachian tube (between your throat and your eardrum), and lets the pressure equalize. It might take 2 or 3 yawns.

Tried that several times.
