IMHO, it’s one shit show after the other. Are there any indications they’ll deliver some of the crime dramas, MI6 thrillers, etc., they used to show, but now no longer air? Maybe even do some new dramas?
If you feel BBC Amer (or whatever it’s called now) is quite good, please tell me why.
What programmes in particular are you pining after? From this, I see as much dross in the older list as the current one, and as much good stuff (The Mighty Boosh, The F Word, Life On Mars) vice versa.
It’s pretty much all I watch anymore. The worst of shows on BBCA are better than any of the alternatives, and they did just start Season 2 of Life on Mars. Season 2 of Torchwood is beginning in January, very shortly after it starts in the UK. I love Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, Bargain Hunt & Cash in the Attic, How Clean is Your House and Top Gear, and I never ever miss my Supernatural Saturday or Tuesday Nitro. Husband is getting quite into Coupling.
The only shows I’ve seen that I would classify as crap are Hotel Babylon and Hex, but admittedly I’ve only ever made it through like one episode of each.
One to look out for is a new production of Cranford which has just finished its run in the UK. This was an excellent adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s story of the changes that take place when the railway and modern life start to encroach on a small market town in the 1840’s. As this was a joint production with WGBH it should get an airing in the US.
I also feel it has been going downhill. Fewer good shows, lousy scheduling decisions, etc.
The “back to back” 2 hour blocks at night are awful. I don’t want to watch 2 hours of a show in a row even if I liked it (and none of the recent ones they are airing are any good).
Putting the news on at 10:00 is also bad. I want comedy at 10. Something to drift off to sleep with. All the local non-major stations have also switched to news at 10. Pffft.
