Is there any non-nutty way that Republicans could even try to claim that Trump can run again?

Why is “all 50 Secretaries of State” the only supposed option? In fact, why is “arrest” the only supposed option? The last time I looked, you don’t have to completely fill a lake with dirt to muddy the waters, so to speak.

Canceling elections in violation of a national constitution is very bad but just about never happens, while election stealing is very bad and happens a lot. If “very bad” is a connection, I agree.

The answer to the thread question is yes, except that it will only be seen as non-nutty by Republicans.

How often national elections are stolen by stealing as opposed to cancellation could go into Factual Questions, if anyone is interested.

Just don’t count the votes. He already tried that of course. Ruined ~1500 families. But even HE may have learned something.

Too many of these scenarios presume that Trump is an actual ruthless, effective dictator instead of the chickenshit coward and (ETA: senile) blowhard that he really is. I can’t find the cite now but someone posted an essay titled “reign of the weakmen”, exploring how pathetic Trump and Boris Johnson were compared to actual “order people shot” dictators.

You think that would happen in Colorado? Our Secretary of State wouldn’t count the votes just because Trump said not to?

And as a cite: that intimidation of a SoS worked soooooo well in Georgia when the office was held by a Republican.

Once!
1876.

Trump’s physical and mental health deterioration are such that he’ll be in no shape to run again in '28, even if supporters sit his carcass up in a chair at rallies and debates, prop his eyelids open and play recordings of him saying “Fake News, Piggie!”.

Continued hints at a third Presidential run are intended to keep allies from deserting his lame-duckitude and keep him semi-relevant.

At least, one hopes that’s the reason.

Both congressional and presidential elections went on in the USA during a frakkin’ civil war! Claiming that the election would have to be suspended due to an “emergency” would be a hard sell.

Kim Il Sung still legally rules North Korea and therefore that would make the US the second necrocracy.

No way. We are decent people here in CO. I mean don’t count the votes in congress. Like he tried to already do.

The law was changed in 2022 to specifically make that impossible.

Congress does not count votes or get to decide which votes are valid - their role is simply to read the results submitted by the states and then certify them.

No, in Washington, DC. And dictators around the world like to pretend to have elections, but none of them actually do. That’s what makes them dictators. People putting marks on pieces of paper isn’t an election; it’s those marks on paper actually determining who holds power.

It was already illegal when they tried it in 2021. Laws can’t stop people from doing things. People stop people from doing things.

It’s a mechanical issue. There is no longer any mechanism by which it is possible for Congress to “not count the votes”, because counting the votes isn’t their purview. Nor can a single member raise an objection over anything they desire - it requires one fifth of both houses and is limited to whether electors were lawfully appointed.

Some states etc have refused to let unqualified persons on the ballot.

Right.

Weekend at Donnies.

And some states have tried to do that, only to be told by the courts that it’s up to the voters to determine.

They were, until the 2025 elections showed that he was implicitly on the ballot and his stench acted like Trump repellent. His loud threats to endorse candidates to primary those incumbents running again for Congress in 2026 sound hollow after that. His reluctant admission that he will not be on the ballot in 2028 signals to his cadre that unless he calls a coup he is the lamest of lame ducks.

“I would say that if you read it, it’s pretty clear. I’m not allowed to run. It’s too bad, but we have a lot of great people,” he added. …

On Monday, Trump said he would “love to do it” when asked about a potential 2028 bid. He also appeared to rule out the prospect of running on the 2028 Republican ticket as vice president, though said he would be “allowed to do that.”

“I guess I think it’s too cute,” referring to a scenario under which the person elected president would step aside so he could take over. “Yeah, I would rule that out because it’s too cute. I think the people wouldn’t like that. It’s too cute. It’s not – it wouldn’t be right.”

Trump’s only competency is his ability to read the political atmosphere. He obviously has had his legal team researching the hell out of conceivable loopholes and finally realized that neither the leaders in the states or anyone but the most deranged of his base would ride along while he steamrolled the Constitution in this way. He might change what’s left of his mind tomorrow but that will only lead to madness, the opposite of non-nutty.

Violence is the only possible path. That takes power. Trump looks like he has unquestioned power, but note that he can’t even get all the Republican states to gerrymander themselves in his hopeless quest not to lose the House in 2026. The military? He and Hegseth have destroyed any trust they had, especially now that they’re setting the military up for a war crimes tribunal. Shutting down an election via the Insurrection Act won’t fly no much he blusters.

So stop worrying about it. From all the recent signs, he’s a stroke survivor who isn’t doing physical rehab to restore his body. He ain’t gonna be alive in 2028 nohow.

Such as…?

Let’s see what he says next week.

Remember, this is the same pathological liar that said the East Wing of the White House wouldn’t be touched…right before he tore it down completely.

Why come up with a non-nutty argument. They would just DECREE that their argument is NOT nutty,”prove me wrong”, and tell you you’re being stupid and nasty when you question it.
