I’m 30-40 years away from retirement. Assuming I don’t get incredibly rich in that time frame I’d consider it otherwise I’m buying an island and retiring there.
…and those of us who are still alive and able to move will join you there-- EEEEK! :eek: Company’s comin’!

I’m still hanging out for the Straight Dope Theme Park, with long queues at attractions, and when you get to the turnstile you turn around and ask the line “Why do people like this? Can someone explain it to me?”
I’d just stay almost exclusively in the IMHO, MPSIMS and Café Society clubhouse. Hell I’d probably divide most of my time between MPSIMS and Café Society. I’m sure I’d never enter the Pit and only rarely poke my toe into GD. In real life I just want to have fun and not argue all day long.

I’ve got my eye on a pleasant retirement home about a mile away from where I live.
Given most Dopers are about 4,500 miles away, the proposed option doesn’t seem practical for me.
I see what you did there.
I reckon most of us are meaningfully different in person than we are on an anonymous message board where we can take 20 minutes to write a 15 second opinion, and then spend hours picking that opinion apart in a post that can be read in 10. So…I think most of us are probably better people in the flesh. That said…nah. I’ve shared too much here and I have a hard enough time trusting meat people who don’t know my darker thoughts.
My first priority is to live close to the ocean, if possible. If we can take care of that, I’m game.

No way. It’s nice to read your information and opinions, but too many Dopers rub me the wrong way and would hasten my demise.
I wouldn’t live there, but I’d be happy to visit once in awhile to push an old doper around the grounds in his or her wheelchair.

Because whether or not we all agree we all like to discuss things.
Because we all (all right most of us) like to learn and discover.
We are mentally active.
Whether or not I agree with all of you, for the most part I spend time on the Dope because we are a community of like-minded individuals. I think that means we would or could form a similarly sound retirement community.
That leaves all of the arguing about where… BWAHAH1AHAHAHHA
Have you considered that being rubbed the wrong way is the secret to longevity. NOT being rubbed will, in fact, hasten your demise.
I think the idea has potential precisely because we’re NOT like-minded. I don’t want to be with like-minded people. I want to be around people who are interested in (and experts in) stuff I never even heard of, people who like intense discussion (with citations), people who are curious about everything, and people who disagree with me.
I think we would need to be like-minded on such things as civilized, non-violent, courteous behavior. That might require not mods like here, but some of those robots like Klaatu to instantly vaporize offenders. Okay… not that, but we would have to be like-minded on the policies of the community.
It depends. I certainly don’t mind dissenting opinions. To each their own, everyone is different. But, for example, if I am sitting in the community room watching Archer and someone comes in and starts freaking out over one of the jokes then that wouldn’t be a happy living environment.
So I guess my problem is not that dissenting opinions exist, it’s how vehemently you present those opinions that would get on my nerves.
See that’s probably why I live alone. 
Yeah, this, and I got to figure I’d be on just about everyone’s list of 'dopers to not invite because they would get on everyone’s nerves. 
However, it’s an interesting idea, and if it ever came to pass that there was such a place (and, more unlikely, I was still alive when most here are retiring) I’d at least come for a very occasional visit…just to keep things stirred up of course.
What if someone on the Dope gets banned between now and retirement-time? Would they still be welcome at the retirement home?

(I’m seriously going to retire early so I can spend more time ‘on the Dope’. Don’t need to see you folks in person to ‘hang witcha’…)
