Is there something convenient I can use to carry around a small SSD?

So as I mentioned in another thread, I got myself a small portable SSD for backups, because I wanted an “offsite backup” that didn’t include the cloud. But I’ve been reluctant to actually, y’know, take it with me when I’ve gone out because I don’t want to bang it up too badly.

Anyone out there with a similar drive? Is there something I can use or buy that would help with the wear and tear concern?

(Speaking of security, a somewhat related issue: the drive I had to return had a utility that let me put a password on my drive. This one did not; is there a good app out there that does something similar?)

throw it in a slim USB 3.0 enclosure. USB 3.0 should be “Fast enough” for backup purposes.

Based on some testing a friend did, a USB 3 thumb drive boots faster than his internal SSD! (This was testing a very high-performance USB thumb drive with an SSD controller: Amazon.com).

I don’t own a SSD, but there are lots of fabric pouches out there that are useful for all sorts of things.

If you’re female (or very securely male) there are a number of bags listed as cosmetic pouches, which are quilted (e.g. Laura Ashley, though there are other brands as well). Depending on the size of the unit, one of those might do well and even have room for the cables.

Maybe something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Inateck-Protective-Carrying-Portable-External/dp/B00L9NZT3A/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1439323270&sr=8-11&keywords=ssd+case

It’s already a portable drive, which means it’s already got an enclosure.

I don’t know anything about your situation with respect to dress codes and fashion sense, but I’ve found cargo pants useful for carrying around all manner of things. Unless your SSD is really big.

Cigarette cases are still made, if you want a rigid enclosure.
