Is there something I'm missing about "Dayton, Ohio 1903" by Randy Newman?

It seems like a straightforward, nostalgic song. Am I missing something? Many of his songs contain a sting in the tail but I can’t detect one in that song.

No sting. Just sweet.

OTOH, Dayton was the home of the Wright brothers, 1903 was when they first flew, and everything changed after that.

I always remember the date the Wright Brothers flew for the first time at Kitty Hawk, 12/12/03, because exactly one year later my grandmother was born.

And she’s still with us! One hundred seven years and counting!

An Evening with George Burns.
Randy Newman is playing piano for him, it’s wonderful.

Wonderful! A belated Happy Birthday to her…

A belated 108th and a really belated 107th birthday to her, since she would have to be 108 (or maybe even 109).

Never mind about the 108th birthday. I misread Baker’s post. She was born in 1904.

Baker, give her our best. All that has changed since then is astounding.

The Wright Brothers first flight was the 17th.
