When our last kid graduated from college, we saved what we were paying in tuition, and used it for a much needed house redo, including new lighting, new floors everywhere, and a full paint job. It is rather astounding how much of this you can do for one tuition payment, even to a state school.
Unfortunately, no. I’m sticking to L.A.- area cons for now. Planning to go to AX, and then to Anime Los Angeles in January. Maybe Pacific Media Expo in November, if time and finances permit. I wish I could go to San Diego Comic-Con, but it sells out quickly - seems like it’s turning more and more into the San Diego Superhero Movie Preview Con, but that’s a discussion for another thread.
I checked the first and second, since there wasn’t a choice for currently spending money on something. I’m about nine months into a China and Southeast Asia trip, with another five plus months to go. Currently watching boats go up and down the Mekong.
I’m currently saving/planning to get out of debt. Mortgage aside (which is relatively small given the scale of things) I’m nearly $20k in the hole with various bills and credit cards.
Getting there, though.
We’ve cleared all debts and saved up enough for a deposit so the missus reckons its house buying time. Personally I’m trying to delay her for at least a couple of years yet, but that’s the plan for now.
Furniture.
Art after that. Then some other things.
I’m with suranyi and amarone–just saving for retirement and college and everything else is just a regular operating expense that doesn’t require any special savings for. A windfall would just get added to the investment pile (I don’t currently have any debt I want to pay down) unless it was truly massive, in which case I’d buy a house or an island or a planet or whatever depending on the size of the windfall.
A trip to Laos. I’ve done all the other countries in the region and this will complete the set as it were. I’m also going with the new woman in my life and two of my best and oldest friends (who are a couple).
I’m looking forward to it more than I’ve looked forward to anything in a long time.
Wow that was an option I hadn’t considered. Sounds amazing I’m really jealous.
My magical win the lottery and don’t have to work anymore plan involves an immense amount of travel.
