Is this a Conservative or Liberal Forum?

Overall in your opinion is this forum inclined toward conservatism or liberalism?

There are a lot more liberal posters in the political section of this message board than there are conservative posters. We have some quite prolific conservative posters though, so the arguments are rarely completely one-sided.

It seems mostly liberal, with a few very ‘visible’ conservatives.

Politics has never really come up.

And on the few occasions that it has, there’s very little partisan bickering. People are generally able to amicably come to a consensus opinion very quickly.

We don’t talk politics or make any other personal judgements here so it is impossible to tell. Almost everyone is completely mellow and accepting of others and listens intently to their viewpoints and integrates them into their own. However, there are a disproportionate number of libertarians on this board compared to society as a whole.

Furthermore, it is not uncommon for a liberal to be persuaded to switch parties after reading posts by some of our more eloquent conservatives; and vice versa.

whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooosh

It’s a liberal board with enough mouthy conservatives and moderates to keep things honest (mostly).

True. I often switch parties every other day and sometimes several times a day just depending on which threads I click on.

I daresay people have switched panties one or more times a day due to threads they clicked on.

It’s liberal, though I think there is a solid contingent of conservatives and quite a wide range of just how “liberal” the liberal posters are.

Someone posted this question a few months back, if not a whole year, and the best answer seemed to be that it’s clearly liberal if you’re in the US and somewhat less so if you’re in another English-speaking country. Obviously it depends on the issue. Health care, guns and reproduction do tend to create schisms. I’m also slightly surprised by some of the posts in forums about modern art, philosophy and women’s sexuality. Make me think I’ve stumbled onto a religious site or Askmen or something.

ETA with that holy trinity of GD fodder, it can be hard to tell what the majority view of Dopers is since the ones willing to slog through 10 pages of arguments tend to be the most passionate from each side.

Is there some corollary to Gaudere’s law where the person calling whoosh is whooshed?

There is no poster on this board named “Conservative.” Make of that what you will.

I’m pretty sure she was serious about that.

Quick - claim it as Tabers Corollary since you brought it up.

“As the length of a satirical thread increases the probability of someone taking it on face value approaches one”

Or something like that.

I’m pretty sure you’re alone in that opinion. Let’s take another poll.

Let’s not, and say we did.

Look! Shiny!

I wonder sometimes if the more politically-minded posters here are representative of the board population at large. That group definitely leans left, but they don’t speak for all of us.

I think the board would more correctly be called a Democratic leaning board than liberal or conservative.
