Is this a Conservative or Liberal Forum?

Likewise. Please; tell me which party you are. I wish to switch and partake of your point of view for the day.

I hight the Fight For Your Right To party. We don’t have caucuses or townhall meetings or conventions; we have keggers.

Is it an exchange with other posters or do they just go put on a fresh pair?

That wasn’t a typo. More like an extension of Rule 34.

To the OP:

This board is biased heavily in favor of those who prize reason and thoughtfulness over knee-jerk reactions and histrionics, civility over self-righteousness. We are not prudes (check out our TMI threads, if you dare), and honest questions, regardless of how trivial they may seem, are welcome. Liberal or conservative, if you value these qualities, you’ll be at home here.

Communist.

Is political discusssion the main purpose of this board?

Since , so far as I can see, it is not, I’m not sure how significant it is whether board members skew conservative or liberal. My guess is that membership skews more liberal; there is nothing whatsoever, however, that prevents conservatives from posting their viewpoints to whatever degree they wish.

For me, a truly depressing number of political threads here start out as partisan advertising or sloganeering rather than actual attempts at discussion, but mostly that seems to be perfectly acceptable as long as it doesn’t descend into personal insults. Yes, I know a few posters from various political positions like to claim suppression by the moderators, but the evidence is very thin.

It comes across as very liberal to me. I’ve seen quite a few instances of slobbering over Barack Obama. There also seems to be a higher than average number of people hostile to religion, which is often lumped in as a liberal position. I’m a center-leaning conservative. Sometimes I feel quite uncomfortable reading some discussions, but I’m the type to just look elsewhere rather than get in a fight. Nobody ever wins fights over politics, everybody just winds up hating each other.

Between the Left and the Right, I honestly can’t decide which America to hate more.

Related: anyone remember if any conservative posters announced they were leaving the boards after Cecil’s “damn fool war” comment?

I scanned the Comments on Cecil’s Columns thread but in vain.

Yes, my overall impression of the Dope is more right / conservative than centrist… but that’s from the perspective of my pinko country.

The hostility to religion is an odd twist (from my point of view), but then I’m from quite secular country (something like 40% no-religion) where our previous Prime Minister was either atheist or agnostic, and the current one doesn’t believe in life after death and said of religion: “if you’re asking me if I’m religious it depends how you define religion”.

We have far fewer strongly vocal folks here both pro- and anti-religion, so less reason I think to feel defensive about the issue.

The board? Depends on how you define left and/or right.
This forum? We swing both ways.

And we have both kinds of music. Country AND Western.

I’d have to say liberal, but that’s mostly based on the fact that more people here seem to get upset at conservative jerks than liberal jerks, rather than based on their actual posts.

To be fair, I guess those would only apply to the Pit and GD, as getting upset at people seems to be inherently frowned upon elsewhere. And, yes, by liberal, I mean the American Democratic Party.

I am also a center leaning conservative. Or maybe center leaning liberal. I’m never sure any more. I voted for Obama, but only because of Palin.

So, since this is the forum for polls, I’d guess that this is the bi-poller forum.

The boards are (by US standards) socially extremely liberal, economically moderately liberal. It is predominantly agnostic and atheist, with a substantial fraction of those atheists being the rabidly anti-religious sort. There is a sprinkling of libertarians and conservatives.

The moderators are unanimously liberal. This is reflected in the attitudes they bring to their moderation.

A good many Dopers are in denial about all or some of the above.

Shodan

Yeah, I think it’s mostly pretty liberal. It does vary a bit depending on the issues. Just some examples:

Abortion: All over the place(?) I don’t usually wade through these threads, but the distribution seems more even than for other issues.
Unions: Other than a few vocal posters, I don’t think it’s very union-friendly.
Free trade: More free trade than not

But then again, my own biases color my perceptions.

We’re a bit like Clinton, now that I think about it. Socially liberal, economically moderate - we want welfare reform, but not the destruction of the welfare state.

And we like a good blowjob.

It’s a strongly anti-ignorance board. Any political leanings it has are the result of that.

Is there a female version of the word ‘blowjob’? I don’t mean, ‘cunninglingus’ or however you spell it… I mean a cool, easy, quick word. I can’t believe I just realized there isn’t a female equivalent of ‘blowjob’.

ETA: I guess, “give me some head” works. Not as cool as ‘blowjob’ though.
