Is this a valud Canadian Postal Code?

I’ve got a subscriber (who’s been quite rude on the phone so I’m a little irritated) in Quebec who has changed his address to have the postal code read GAT 3C4.

Does that many anything to you folks up north? I can’t confirm that it’s valid via the Canadian postal service.

No. A Canadian postal code is always letter-number-letter number-letter-number. For more information on finding a postal code, check here.

Are you sure it’s not G8T 3C4? That is a valid QC postal code, and easily confused over the phone.

No he clearly wrote it and said it the other way. We got it in writing from him and later called to confirm because that looks strange to me.

I just looked it up at the postal code reverse look-up at www.canadapost.com.

Just got an error message. The G8T version got me a range of addresses in a place called Cap-de-la-Madelaine though.

Odd… Well the one he gave you is definitely not valid. The Look Up feature on the postal site that **Cerowyn ** linked to should be able to help you out though.

<smackie> Hit submit too soon.

If you’ve got the rest of his address, you can get the postal code here.

Yeah, I miss smackie, too.

Does ‘Etang du Nord’ mean anything to you guys?

Odd… I swear I read Cerowyn’s post. I swear I didn’t see his link though.

Ah, it’s G4T.

There is a L’Etang Du Nord in QC…

The Commission de Toponymie informs me that there’s a post office and village by that name in the Magdalen Islands, which Eats_Crayons mentions.

Yay

That was fun  It was like a lunch break scavenger hunt there

This is exactly why I love you people.

But I still don’t get why he insisted it was an ‘A’ on the phone. That’s just weird. He wrote it as an ‘A’ and confirmed it.

Now let’s all go on a field trip to go tell the guy he has lousy handwriting! We can have poutine afterwards.

Maybe he moved and copied it down wrong (and is too dumb to remember that it goes letter, number, letter, number, letter, number).

I did that once – my driver’s licence was even wrong – wrote down the first part of my new address and the second part was from a really, really old address that was kinda similar.

Revenge for choosing Vinnie’s?

All this time, and no one has answered the question posed in the title of this thread. “Is this a valud Canadian Postal Code?” I assume that’s short for “valued”? Hmmm … guessing from the tone of the OP, I guess it isn’t particularly valued.

Oh man, I could really go for some poutine right about now…

I wonder if I can get some anywhere in NYC…

Yeah, I’m up for poutine!
