Is this considered HipHop (or possibly rap)?

By “this” I mean * Don’t* by Ed Sheeran.

For anyone who does not usually like those genres, do you like this song?

Hmm, I’d call it trip-hop. Partly because it’s so heavily produced, and it has a groove, but it marches instead of bounces. Also, the vocals are more soul than funky, which makes me associate it with Tricky, etc.

I don’t really understand most of these words. " scabpicker", I get :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not “young” or “hip”; I don’t have a “groove”; no one considers me “bouncy”.

Just kidding; I get the gist, for the most part. Is this a trend that I can look forward to hearing more of, perhaps replacing more, er , traditonal hiphop?

Yes and no. Trip-hop and hip-hop have coexisted peacefully since at least the mid-90’s. The former won’t “replace” the latter anytime soon.

You can hear more of it by, well, looking up Massive Attack and Portishead and the like.

It definitely isn’t trip-hop.

It’s a hybrid of RnB and hip-hop.
