Is this junior modding?
How about providing some links?
I see that you did not report the posts, which you should have done before posting this here.

Since the thread is in the Pit, I’ll leave it to Miller to respond. However, I will point out that if the posts you link to were junior modding, then your own accusation of junior modding was itself junior modding, especially since you did not report the posts in question. You accused another poster of a rules violation, instead of reporting it as you should have done and letting the mods handle it.
To put it in perspective, ThelmaLou copied those comments from an earlier post in a different thread, and she started a new thread on that one specific topic in order not to hijack the first one. Seems commendable to me.
The admonitions might seem a bit extreme, but it’s the Pit, so I don’t see any rules being broken and maybe the OP should take his complaints down there.
Posting a thread in the Pit demanding no personal insults is sort of like wearing a kick me sign at a placekicker’s convention though. It can’t go well, whatever the OP’s intentions.
Yeah it seems to me that it may have been begging for personal attacks to float, OP instructions notwithstanding. But seriously, if you have an issue with a post, report it! That’s what that little symbol in the corner means.
Especially since she defied her own edict and, two hours into the thread, insulted the very people she was supposedly seeking to have a discussion with: Trump supporters.
Any post or question or recommendation by D’Anconia is addressed by me with the interest and value it deserves.
IOW…fuck-all.
Since she put all of that in the FIRST POST, who exactly was she junior modding?
I have no issue with her trying to set some rules of engagement, considering her topic had a high probability of turning into a shitshow like everything else election related. Although I do believe it was doomed from the start.
And she did not help her case by violating her own rules fairly early in the thread.
Only the first line was in the OP. The other two lines were posted later of the thread.
I agree that both the OP and D’Anconia were Jr Mod’ing. It’s plain as day. This, by the OP, is especially over the line:
“get out if you have nothing substantive to add”
In the Pit, that’s over the line?
Moderator Note
The topic here is Jr. Modding, not your opinion of D’Anconia (or anyone else). If you want to make comments like this, take it to the Pit.
Unless there is no such thing as a rule against Jr Mod’ing in the Pit, yes. She’s telling the poster he cannot post in the thread unless he conforms to her rules. I’ve never seen anything saying rules against Jr Mod’ing don’t apply in the Pit, but if they don’t, then so be it.
I’m going with this. I’ve seen First Posts in IMHO with similar (but more nicely worded) rules and usually I’ve appreciated them. In a manner of speaking they help clarify just what subject matter the OP wishes in response. Toss something like that in say post #30 or throw it in a thread someone else starts and maybe it rates a report. But as it was here? Not so much so.
It should be legal, not junior modding, to request ground rules when posting a thread in the pit. Absolutely pointless, but legal nonetheless. I mean, posting an OP with please don’t call me a “twit” in it will generate no fewer than 100 “you’re a twit” responses when done in the pit.
The results are sufficient punishment, no need for mod action. This seems to be more a case of someone getting their feelings hurt and trying to get even by posting in ATMB instead of turning the matter over to the staff via a report.
Emphasis added-- that is exactly what happened. It was not all in the OP, as I already noted above.
Nin’ja’ed … [giggle]
Nope-Dojo Mastered.
I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a report for junior modding in the Pit before. This is a bit of a novel situation. Obviously, the OP’s instructions in that thread have absolutely no force, and everyone is free to ignore them. But should posting diktats about what people can and cannot post in your Pit threads something that should be moderated? In the general spirit of the Pit, I feel like this is something that’s better handled by the posters at large. I’d expect a Pit OP that specifically admonishes people not to insult each other to be met with nothing but a steady stream of mockery and invective, and frankly, I’m a little disappointed in you people that that did not happen.
Of course, that’s what sets the Pit apart from other forums, and why a rule against junior modding (much like a rule against threadshitting) maybe doesn’t make as much sense there. We have the rule about junior modding because we don’t want to have GD threads that turn into fights over what people are and are not allowed to post in that thread. In the Pit, we’re generally less concerned with the idea of keeping threads “on topic,” and the possibility of a thread careening out of the OP’s control is one of the draws of reading and posting there.
There’s also an issue of drawing a distinction between junior modding, and some types of behavior that are generally considered acceptable in the Pit. Implicitly, a lot of posting in the Pit is about telling other people how they should behave on the boards. Is telling someone to “Shut up and go away” a form of junior modding? “You’re too stupid to post in this thread?” “Anyone who thinks X can piss off, I don’t want to hear your bullshit?” The thread in question is pretty clear cut, but if the rule against junior modding is going to be enforced in the Pit, I think there’s going to be a fairly significant gray area around what does and does not break the rule.
So, my inclination here is to not intervene in that thread, and let the posters sort it out themselves, in the tradition of the forum. But I’m open to arguments for why the junior modding rule would be helpful in the Pit, if someone wants to make them.
