Posted in the Otto is banned thread but I fear has been lost in the issues there.
QED has just been suspended for a week for “junior modding” which, according to TUba they’ve repeatedly asked him not to do. Given the lightening fast ban on Otto for being mildly snarky right after Ed said stop whining now, I cautiously ask "what do TPTB consider ‘junior modding’ " There were no examples given in the thread.
I have ideas about what it is, but, since I’m not privvy to the discussions, and don’t have threads w/warnings to look at, I’m not certain.
If I see a thread that’s a duplicate - is posting a link to the other thread “junior modding”
Is pointing out that junior modding can get you suspended “junior modding”?
Is linking to rules “junior modding” ? what if the poster asked the question?
Is it “junior modding” to point out that I thought he deserved suspension for being a jerk?
And, given the current climate, please note that I am not complaining.
Like anything else done by humans, there’s some variation. I was once given a warning about personal insults for mentioning the “don’t be a jerk” rule. IMO, with all that’s going on right now, erring on the side of caution might be a good strategy.
The junior modding restrictions make me wonder, too. Where is the line between posters who have been active participants here for years and years giving newbs advice, and junior modding? Why shouldn’t us old farts give the newbies advice? Why should they have to learn everything the hard way? Why shouldn’t we give them an occasional heads-up on the ins and outs and nuances of this community?
I too would like to see anactual example of something that’s consider to be over the line. I always assumed the junior modding meant a expressing too high degree of certainty over your opinion of what the rules mean. Or speaking as if your personal opinion is the accepted standard for us all.
OTOH, if that’s the case, there’s a shitload of junior modding that people haven’t been called out on.
ok, there’s now, what six long term posters (mostly afaik, not ‘problem posters’) all saying (essentially) “what the fuck (with all due respect) can we post w/o getting warned/banned?”
Thanks for the LOL, there Sampiro. You can bet your sweet ass that I’m not posting anything outside the Pit for the next month lest it be taken as something in violation of the rules. I don’t care if I ask you what time it is. The question goes in the Pit.
But then I run the risk of getting warned for posting in the wrong forum, so I will start off all of my threads with “Fuck you, worthless cocksuckers, but not in a homosexual way, bastards!” and then proceed with my question or debate.
But I don’t recall QED ever doing either of those things. That’s why I want clarification from the mods. what posts were considered ‘too junior modding’? are the examples I gave junior modding? Many of the things on that list are things that many oldy-timersy do frequently (quoting rules, posting links to duplicate threads etc)
I have no opinions on this subject. I have never thought about this subject. I have never posted about this subject, either generally in the past or specifically in this case. This post does not offer any opinions or suggestions on the topic. In fact, this post does not exist. There is nothing to see here. Move along. Move along.
