I agree. I think it’s appropriate to discuss sex and teach your kid, even if he or she is only 8 or 10 in a private setting. Not so cool to film it and put it out on the internet.
I like Dan Conner’s approach in an episode of Roseanne -“DJ, it’s perfectly normal, everybody does it, but nobody talks about it”
Friction burns??? Come on, man!
Yeah, I can say I never had any friction burns.
I thought the quote was: “It’s like peeing in the shower. Everybody does it, but nobody likes to talk about it.”
I just looked it up, the quote is:
“Even though it’s okay and everybody does it and there’s nothing wrong with it, nobody ever ever talks about it”
I wasn’t,t there but I’ve been told by that.by at least 2 sources.
One guy said he heard about masturbating with a sock, he used it as a partner…not a towel.
The other was given guidance by a differently equipped friend… evidently guys with a foreskin are less relient on lube, was the story.
I don’t know, I wasn’t there. What I do know is that over the years, people tell stories of fail…burn turkeys, crashed cars and on the topic of this thread I’ve heard stories of sex/solo fails.
It’s not the examples that stand out, it’s the repeating phenomenon of ignorance and misinformation causing regret and shame where there was no good reason for it.
I learned very early on, first-hand (so to speak), that shampoo, slippery though it may be, is not a good choice for a lubricant. I didn’t have to shamefacedly ask for help from anyone afterward, but the skin on my penis was rubbed raw (and my anus and urethra were on fire for a while too). Mighta been nice to have a heads-up before that happened…
I didn’t realize my grip was unconventional until my mid 20s.
Probably Norway Link to show site if this was recently.
And it is a great sex-ed show.
When I was a kid, my mom handed me a two foot high stack of sex-Ed books, a few extremely graphic. I read them cover to cover.
With my kids I took the Mr Science approach, starting with how single called organisms reproduce and working my way through birds-bees to a video of a cat having kittens.
None of the above was filmed. We lived in a simpler time.
Wow, that seems a bit much on a few different levels. I think it’s appropriate to talk to your kids about masturbation insomuch as to advise them that it’s private (but not bad) and also that forcing something into your body isn’t the smartest thing to do, but I don’t think they need detailed instruction.
Also, as a parent who requests permission of my kids prior to posting pictures of them on facebook (they’re 7 and 11 and most of my eldest’s friends have a phone with data plan, which I think is a whole other issue but I’m old school…and cheap), I couldn’t conceive of posting such an intimate discussion on youtube.
Another vote for inappropriate.
It’s fine for parents to have conversations on sexual matters with their children. But there’s no good reason to post it online.
If you aren’t ashamed of masturbating, then I would think “the time I gave myself a friction burn” becomes a painful-at-the-time-but-amusing-story, like breaking your arm trying to fly.
Inappropriate. I did not get the sense that those were even serious conversations. It seemed the purpose was for youtube viewers’ entertainment.
The problem with that is, even if you give a child a detailed talk, unless you have experienced it you are not likely to think of telling them that.
Then you have the ones that as soon as you tell them not to do something they just have to go try it and see for themselves.
I agree that there should be a talk, but I think bringing out the toys and asking and telling personal info is too much.
We’ve come a long way from it’ll make you go blind or you’ll grow hair on your palms, which is a good thing.
Individual parents may not have the range of experience to properly educate their kids. It’s the kind of thing that ought to be covered in sex-ed classes and/or books, i.e. how to be safe when exploring your own body - what objects/lubes are safe to play with, and what are not, that sort of thing.
Those poor kids seemed so embarassed, especially that one girl with the glasses. “So, have you ever masturbated?” Oh dear god.
However, “That’s so rude to chickens” should become a meme.
