Is this real? Musk in the oval office?

Is this real? AI? WTAF is going on in America?

Anyone remember how Steve Bannon was the “man behind the throne” in the first Trump administration? How did that turn out?

A still photo of it is on CNN, so I presume it’s real.

The kid picked a booger and wiped it on the desk.

Have you been living in a cave since 20 January? Over 1500 convicted or arraigned insurrectionists have been pardoned, Elon Musk has a group of interns fucking around in the guts of the Treasury payment systems, USAID has been effectively shut down by executive order and its employees on foreign soil essentially told to “Fuck off, don’t call us,” even though that is completely outside of executive authority, a nominee who wouldn’t promise to refuse a plainly illegal order in her confirmation hearing was appointed by the Senate to lead the Justice Department, another nominee who is a known Putin sympathizer and credibly suspected Russian agent was made the Director of National Intelligence, the FBI has been ordered to turn over a list of all special agents and other staff who did their appointed duty in investigating crimes at the January 6, 2021 insurrection, the CIA was ordered to send a list of all probationary agents to Elon Musk at an unclassified email account (which they did because apparently the plot of Mission: Impossible to conceal the names of agents at all costs was total bullshit), the National Institutes of Health stayed all grants and then was ordered to reverse the stay and then stopped them again leaving thousands of research labs and post-docs in financial limbo,…the list goes on.

Elon Musk incoherently lecturing about his philosophy of civics and “the will of the people”, talking about decorum while wearing an “Occupy Mars” tshirt and a ‘Dark MAGA’ trucker hat, and his idiot spawn goobering in the Oval Office may be the least absurd thing there to be reported from there in at least a week.

No, not really. I’m a Canadian who has stopped purchasing American products and cancelled my US travel.

I’ve just never seen a guy interrupt a president who is speaking in the oval office while said guy’s rugrat wipes boogers on the presidents desk. That seems noteworthy to me.

The rug-rat’s booger is probably the most noble thing to have occupied the Oval Office since the ignominious afternoon of January 20.

With good reason.

The utter hypocrisy of Elon Musk blathering on about hypothetical people “getting rich at the taxpayers’ expense” without even a hint of irony is more notable than his snotty little rugrat (one of the dozen or so to whom he has even the slightest attention toward, at least as a prop) babbling and snotting up the Resolute Desk. Be thankful you have a choice to avoid association with the United States or experience immediate consequences of Archpresident Musk and his Spitting Image puppet President Trump, and that the tariffs being imposed ‘on Canada’ (i.e. being paid by American consumers) will harm us far more than it will you, leading you to develop trade alliances with more stable partners who don’t elect inchoate wanna-be strongman leaders and their coterie of Nazi-saluting fascist idolators.

That kid is going to be the next director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

Who thinks this is what any government is supposed to look like? (Rhetorical)

I’m torn between laughing and crying. :joy:

The highlight of this presidency will be Elmo getting fired, then suing Trump, and Trump will finally lose money on lawyers.

Elmo’s firing is inevitable (actually, I don’t think he can technically be “fired” since he was never really hired in any official capacity – and neither were his goons – but you know what I mean – there will be a hostile parting of ways). But even as a non-American, I lament the degree to which the traditional prestige of the presidency and the Oval Office have been so thoroughly trashed. Despite the institutions of the presidency going through the motions, they have about as much value now as one of the Orange Felon’s NFTs. It’s a great loss for America, and a real and present threat to the world. We live in troubled times.

Firmly agreed. 200 years from now we’ll hear “well, you elected Trump TWICE” as a reason not to trust us.

(Not the current “we”, but “we” as US Citizens.)

Let’s not forget the firing of the Inspectors General that even Lindsey Graham acknowledged was unlawful (But that’s OK. Next time we will tell them not to do it.), the shuttering of the FBI unit tasked with investigating election interference and for all practical purposes, shutting down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. BTW, is anyone maintaining a running list of his illegal and/or outrageous behaviors? You know, like the lies list from his last term?

Optimist. I expect 200 years from now we’ll be too busy eating rats in abandoned subway tunnels to bother learning about ancient history.

Very strange what happened in connection with that. This afternoon I was sitting at my desk working. Suddenly I heard loud sounds from the other room and Dump’s voice speaking. The TV had switched on by itself.

That TV had not been switched on in weeks. The remote control had remained untouched all that time. There was no conceivable reason why the TV should have cut on at that moment. That TV has been there for over a decade and has never cut on by itself before. Very, very strange. I tried different buttons to shut it off and in the course of making sure it was off I switched it on again and Musk was speaking. I hit the power off. Since then it has stayed off.

I can’t understand why people keep saying this. Trump has been bought. Look at his face. Does he look happy that Elon is getting this attention? He would never have put up with this before Elon started stuffing his pockets with money. He loves his adoration but that pales in comparison to his love of money.

As verbose as I am, even I can only jam so much into a single post. This was like five years of history jammed into three weeks and topped by a lesson in governance by Elon Musk, who is about as informed about civics as he is about space industrialization and interplanetary in-situ resource utilization, which is to say at a cartoon level.

Musk is in charge, Trump is a figurehead, he cannot fire Musk.

Remind me again, which party was it that threw a hissy fit over Hillary Clinton’s role in shaping health care policy because she wasn’t elected?

He made the fatal mistake of not having an almost unlimited pile of cash to pour into Trump’s pockets,
