I’ve read that each person experiences one major loss in their life—one death that is devastating & thereafter colors all others. Sounds like you’re lucky enough not to have gone thru that yet. I do think, tho, that you may quickly compartmentalize pain so it doesn’t hurt so much.
Related question: I know several people who appear incapable, or nearly incapable, of empathy. But they don’t fulfill all the criteria for sociopathy - no antisocial behaviour, not irresponsible, etc. I was also reading a book recently which talks about ‘corporate psychopaths’ and the overrepresentation of psychopathic symptoms at senior levels of management (and in government). Yet these people are unlikely to indulge in irresponsibility and antisocial habits. What is their condition?
