Is this T Shirt that offensive

You sound like a great guy too Cisco. One cop gets in a bar fight and smashes a pool ball in a guy’s face. That’s the only part of the story you know and you think that inspires writing songs about killing cops. What if he was a plumber? Plumber killerrrrrrrr!

If plumbers were known for beating people just for the fun of it and because they knew they could get away with it (not saying that’s what your friend does but LA cops had a bad reputation for doing just that when the song was made) then yes. Plumber killerrrrrrrr!

I don’t hate cops. I actually quite like most of the cops I’ve met in my life. I do, however, have an innate suspicion of authority and I hold cops to a higher standard of not smashing poolballs in people’s faces, be they on duty or off.

The idea that most cops are in serious mortal danger on every shift is simply preposterous. When you have a few friends on the losing of trumped-up felonies because of dishonest cops, maybe you will have a more mature attitude toward reality.

Depending on the neighborhood, cops do put their lives in mortal danger on every shift. If Kittenlm has friends who have their felonies trumped up by dishonest cops what mature attitude will she have? That cops are pigs? Why do you have friends who commit felonies to get trumped up in the first place?

To Cisco: Getting in a bar fight and smashing a billiard ball in someone’s face would probably not be anyone’s proudest moment, no matter what their profession is but saying that that warrants having a song about killing people of their profession is sick.

The song wasn’t about killing people. It was allegory directed at people like your friend.

Even if I wasn’t an off duty cop who should be more responsible than to get drunk and get into a barfight I sure wouldn’t use a weapon in a fight unless I thought there was a clear and present danger to my life or the life of someone around me.

I know if I was a cop I’d be pretty mad at your friend for promoting the asshole bully cop stereotype, and that’s whether he started the fight or not.

I’m sure the impressionable youth of the inner cities see it as an allegory. An allegory for not really killing cops but for…?

  1. You’re profile says you live in rural Michigan. Move to New York City for a week and then say that statement again.

  2. My friends don’t commit felonies. I tend to befriend truthful, honest people.

Granted, I am not saying that all cops are good people. I know some terrible ones that my sister works with. But generally speaking, cops are good people. And yes, they do put their lives in danger. Not necessarily every shift, but they do risk their lives for us.

I guess I am more cynical towards people who bash cops because I live so close to NYC. After 9-11, I have more respect for police than I ever have in my life. They rushed into those buildings knowing damn well they may never make it out alive. To me, that is the ultimate sacrifice and I will raise my voice in their honor anytime I have to.

I was thinking I could wear it to an Underground Hip Hop Concert in a few weeks, seriously. I know that I wouldn’t be out of place at all.

I have a few reasons for liking it and they are all shallow, nothing to do with making a statement. For one it matches a pair of shoes that I bought recently and I saw someone wearing it and I thought it would look better on me.
The term PIG only refers to bad cops who deserve to be called PIG. My mother feels the same way most of you do and since I am really a good guy, if she continues to hate the shirt so much I won’t even buy it.

Dude, its a black t-shirt. I’m assuming it goes with your black shoes? Unless the shoes have little piggies on the front of them, I think just about any shirt will do.

You seem like a nice young man and I believe you when you say you don’t think all cops are bad. The only problem is that that shirt doesn’t convey that. It doesn’t say “mean cops suck” or anything like that. It says, “the owner of this shirt thinks cops are pigs”. Even at a hip hop concert, you may be standing next to someone who had a family member killed on the job.

Are the cops in the States really as bad as you guys make out? I doubt a cop in Britain would waste their time making an issue out of this (fairly shite) T shirt.

Oh yeah, x-ray vision, your cop friend sounds like an utter tool and should really be fired IMHO.

I find it highly offensive.

They’re not, as odd as it might seem for me to say this.

But the quality of cops varies wildly from district to district, & you can’t really predict what you’re going to find.

Example–Chicago cops are pretyy competant at murder investigations & SWAT operations. There are & will be exception, but they know what to do & when to do it.

Colorado cops are very different. The Jon Bene Ramsey case was botched up by cops who were inept & poorly trained. And during the Colombine High School massacre, the Colorado cops stood around outside while people were dying.

Similar variations occur in discipline & abuse issues.

I wouldn’t be offended by it. I just think it’s incredibly lame, and can’t believe anyone would spend $20 on it (plus postage!).

It would be different if it was clever or attractive, but it’s neither. Just a cop and a sign saying pig. WTF?

Another fun thing you could try would be to change the “p” to an “n” and add “ger” to the end. No reason to take offense at that either, right?

Regards,
Shodan

No because that would make it a racial slur. 'Profession’ism hasn’t quite yet reached the level of taboo of racism.

Well according to the OP, you wouldn’t be rasict if “you’e only talking about the bad ones”.

The same as you could replace the ‘p’ of ‘cop’ with an ‘o’ and an ‘n’?

Yes, it is offensive. So what? This is America, God damn it! You gave a Constitutional tight to be deliberately offensive.

I’s okay to wear it if you have an intent to be offensive. If you imagine that you can wear it without being offensive to some of the people who see it, you are fooling yourself.

The OP wasn’t asking if he had the right to wear an offensive shirt. He was asking for opinions of whether or not the shirt was offensive.

What’s gettin’ you so hot there Boyo?
