Is this the death of cheap beer? MillerCoors boots PBR

Except the tax on all liquor is relatively low here, not just beer. I think it has more to do with our drinking habits than our manufacture of it.

Every now and then some dolt suggests we raise our alcohol taxes. The idea is never received very well.

:smack: Somehow I had it in my head that Latrobe was in eastern Pennsylvania. To be honest, I’ve never been there.

If you’ll pardon a slight hijack, my father told me about going through Latrobe when he was a salesman for an oil company. He knew that Latrobe was the home of Rolling Rock and Pennzoil, and the birthplace of Arnold Palmer. So what did the sign say when he drove into the city?

“Welcome to Latrobe, birthplace of Mr. Rogers!”

I’d be most proud of that, too.

Yep, Latrobe has Arnold Palmer Airport where, pre-9/11, I would take my 5 year old daughter to watch takeoffs and landings when she was going through her airplane stage.

At Idlewilde Park (an amusement park near Latrobe) I once heard Mr McFeely drop an F Bomb (away from the general public). That was weird.

Circa 1995 I was in the Laurel Highlands overlooking Latrobe and Ligonier. We stopped at a little bar. There were cases of Rolling Rock stacked everywhere. I asked the bartender what beer they had other than Rolling Rock. I got nasty looks from everyone there; they all either worked for the brewery or had friends/relatives who did.

And that’s more than anyone wanted to know about Latrobe, PA.

This is out of date since it omits the ABInBev-SABMiller merger and re-org.

I thought it did include it, to make the merger happen ABInBev … sold the US/Canadian rights to Miller & Coors and others to MolsonsCoors.

It is a really twisted picture though.
