Is this the longest running thread?

Yes, this thread was started by me. Help me stock the ultimate (fictional) library
I have been away for several years and, coming back, I was amazed that it still has recent replies
So, not the most popular or most viewed, but (without being a zombie) the longest from OP to most recent post?

There’s no practical way to search for such threads, even after we agree on what constitutes “recent enough last post”.

And what constitutes a “zombie”; how often does the thread have to be refreshed?

But here’s a thread that beats yours. This thread dates from 2011 and gets multiple new posts almost every day.

To be fair, your example thread was started by someone of dubious character.

Of all the days to re-emerge, your 20th cake day! March 29, 2005

I was summoned. Soon, I shall return from whence I slumber.

May 5, 1945 - we shall remember. dates back to the year 2000 and is revived every year. I don’t count it as a zombie because of its continuing nature.

There have been several multi-part threads which got sequels when they hit the magic 10K post mark, incl. quite a few in Thread Games (which didn’t exist 10 years ago IIRC).

How old is the Rudolph thread?

I’ll try to find it.

Started Nov 30, 2000

So slightly younger than May 5, 1945 - we shall remember.

Yep. but the OP’s question is about duration, not post count.

When I made my post upthread I did some research. The “New Stupid Republican idea of the day” thread is now on part 4 at about cumulative post number 30,500. But the OP of part 1 dates from just Jun 2020. So 30,500 posts in 4-3/4 years.

Compared to the OP’s thread from 2013 or the aviation one from 2011, the bitching about Republicans threads are a lot younger.

I tried poking at other multi-part threads looking for real early start dates. None of them were very old. Certainly not 12 years.

And there’s this compendium on the history of the “Stewart Sandwich” (2008) that keeps getting bumped.
