Not that I think it really means anything.

Whether or not the numbers are correct, let’s not go and make unreasonable deductions. First of all, Gore tended to win in large urban areas. Large urban areas typically have the highest violent crime rates. Does this have anything to do with who won a certain area? Not in any direct way. Why are people in large cities more likely to vote for the Democrat candidate? Why do people in rural areas tend to vote Republican? There are any number of reasons, but this would be more of a Great Debate. You could just as easily spin-doctor voting figures and come up with something equally dubious to be thrown in the other direction. However, there are some interesting debates that can be spawned from these numbers, and I’d suggest you try a similar post in GD and see what comes of it. In response to the original question…I don’t know whether the numbers are correct. Do you have a cite?
What is worrisome about these figures is the number of votes Gore will lose before the next election vs. the number Bush will lose. That alone can determine Florida and maybe New Mexico.
It’s probably best to go back to the original source material to determine the answer to questions like this. Barring that, here’s a few questions that may help you distinguish truth from fiction here:
Where do these numbers come from ? Does your source have a record for honest reporting ? What was the purpose to which this information was used ? Does that purpose justify the effort that was expended to generate the factoid ? Was the information sought out deliberately, or was it the result of some sort of fishing expedition ? Was the factoid presented alone, or was it surrounded by a group of similar bits ? Was any analysis of the implications of the factoid presented ? Were you able to verify the truth or falseness of any bits of information that might have surrounded the factoid ?
All that aside, the numbers at least sound plausible, but I’ll bet they were used to no good purpose.
For a lively discussion of the City/Country divide try the Liberals more intelligent thread in GD.
I picked them off of a random post on another website. The other items in the list are true. I have no idea if the source usually posts true things.
I know the difference is due to the urban=democrats and rural=republican thing. I just thought that there wouldn’t be this big of a difference.
