Inssanah’s posts provide a good example of why I opposed this war - they illustrate the capacity for Muslim rage at the inflicting of any casualties on Muslims by non-Muslims, whatever the justification. We can point out the vastly greater number of deaths and horrific suffering inflicting by Saddam on his people and cite hundreds of thousands of murders and deportations by his now-deposed regime, but the Insannahs of the world don’t want to hear about that.

Not without reservation, I’m going to post my two cents. I don’t think a “let’s make funny captions for the photos that someone else has found very affecting” contest is the best way to fight ignorance.
I don’t know if the pictures represent what Inssanah claims they do, but it’s hard to see them as humorous. In fact, I have no doubt that even a just war involves such horrors, so perhaps it’s a moot point.
And to answer the OP directly: No, it is not what I want. No one wanted suffering. I believe most of those who strongly supported the war did so believing that ultimately Iraq’s citizens would be better off. I believe there are also pictures of at least some of the tens of thousands killed under the old regime. Personally, I think the solution that would have saved the most lives would have been employed back when Saddam made opposition a crime punishable by death – and having missed that window, I’m appalled that such blunt instruments as sweeping sanctions and war have been deemed necessary.
So, to make myself the most unpopular doper for Friday, April 25, 2003, shame on Inssanah for assuming anyone out there would rejoice in suffering, and shame on those mocking her, and reinforcing what is no doubt a very prevalent belief in her neck of the woods that Americans don’t care about the suffering of others.

Inssanah, if you are claiming that there is no way to justify the deaths of children during war, would you like to go on record as condemning the deaths of innocent Israeli children who were maimed and murdered by Palestinian suicide bombers? Inssanah, are you looking for an honest dioalogue on the matter or do you just want to put forth your view without criticism? Do you expect all of us to chime in with a chorus of “How awful, you know I never thought of that! She’s right!” ? And can you stop yelling please? You’re hurting my ears.
All kidding aside, this is not the kind of topic you can just bust in on someone with and expect to get a reasoned debate. If you want to be taken seriously, then try setting forth your points in a reasoned manner. Lay out your assertions, find some facts to back them up, and then pose a few questions. And don’t accuse others of not taking it seriously when you yourself don’t seem to care about listening to opposing opinions.
I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are sincere with this. I will apologize for my incredulity and my lightheartedness earlier in this thread, but I would humbly ask that you check out the Great Debates forum, stop posting in all uppercase and search for answers with an open heart. I’m sure there are many that would be enlightened by your viewpoint, and I’m sure there are many here who could also enlighten you.
