It has nothing to do with lying. That hasn’t changed. That doesn’t show he’s losing his mind. The babbling and huge lapses in memory do show that.
According to this board, Obama saying there were 57 states was a nothing. So if it is occassional then not a big deal.
Everybody misspeaks occasionally. If saying 40 instead of 50, once, in 8 years in the spotlight, was proof of mental decline, then see you in the care home. It’s not so bad; I hear they have pork chops once a month.
OTOH trump’s “gaffes” (stretching the word here) are almost daily at this point and cannot be described as merely misspeaking.
He had absolutely no reason to start talking (or rather, lying) about Nancy pelosi, nor to keep repeating Nikki’s name. He had obviously gotten very confused.
But yeah, both sides

Do you think this was a big deal?
He recently talked about “debanking”.
Trump: 'They wanna de-bank you, and we’re going to de-bank.'
He told people that America is “an institute in a powerful death penalty.”
‘We are an institute in a powerful death penalty. We will put this on,’ the 77-year-old former president said
And his dad had dementia before he died.
Mary Trump's book, "Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man," is expected to publish in July.
donald is demented. More so than typical.
I don’t think he can hold it together before the next election.
OTOH trump’s “gaffes” (stretching the word here) are almost daily at this point and cannot be described as merely misspeaking.
Yeah, I don’t see how the two are even close to comparable. To keep it all Republican, compare W’s malapropisms, which were almost Yogi Berran in nature at times, to the word salad that’s been put through a Vitamix for good measure that comes out of Trump’s mouth. Bush’s I could at least understand what concepts he’s mixing up and how he got to stuff like “misunderstimate” or the “fool me once” saying that somehow ended with The Who. With Trump, I can’t even figure out what he’s trying to say half the time these days.
Lying is a side-benefit.
My point is that as an actor, Reagan delivered his lines as written. He lied, of course, but his writers were talented in the art of plausible deniability, so he was rarely called out on it. The Great Communicator, and he was good at it. He said what he meant to say and the ideas were expressed clearly. He didn’t flub his lines because of his training.
It’s different with Trump. He never delivers his lines as written (and likely most of what he delivers isn’t written). The two of these together are opposite of Reagan’s behavior.
I won’t go so far as to say every mis-speak Trump makes is deliberate with ulterior intent, but it is obvious he never made a large effort to keep from doing it. It’s like he flubed his lines as a result of his training.
We know Reagan developed Alzheimer’s. We don’t know about Trump. It may be, or it may be some other age-related loss of mental capacity. Heck, it could just be that he has gone down the “there is no such thing as Truth–Truth is merely what people agree it is” rabbit hole that he has permanently lost his way.
Isn’t that like, 50% of most bands?
zimaane did specify supporters, not the band members themselves. I don’t recall a lot of passion heated that high between fans of Paul and fans of John as compared to between the two.
I don’t think he can hold it together before the next election.
We need to keep poking at him until we get an undeniable Queeg moment.
Do you think this was a big deal?
No. That was my point. As already stated

If the OP were simply
In October, in a speech in Derry, N.H., he informed his audience that Viktor Orban, the strongman who rules Hungary, is “the leader of Turkey.”
Then it is comparable to Obama. But the OP gave multiple instances that seemed more than slips of the tongue. To that end, it would be interesting to compare and contrast Trump’s misstatements to Biden’s. I see Biden’s as more of not being to find the right word, almost like comparing onset dementia vs onset aphasia.
Heck, it could just be that he has gone down the “there is no such thing as Truth–Truth is merely what people agree it is” rabbit hole that he has permanently lost his way.
I think you’re still missing the point. The assertion is not that Trump is abandoning reality even further in favor of his own preferred fantasyland. It’s that he is losing his ability to form and articulate thoughts.
“We are an institute in a powerful death penalty.”
“They’re trying to de-bank you, and we will de-bank.”
I guess we won’t know for sure about the specifics until the autopsy, but he is in an obvious mental decline.
I see Biden’s as more of not being to find the right word, almost like comparing onset dementia vs onset aphasia.
In Biden’s case, it isn’t the onset of anything. He’s been doing this for 50 years.
Maybe that’s why he stole Neil Kinnock’s speeches.
Moderating:

This has nothing to do with Trump’s confusion and is a hijack to the discussion at hand. Drop it, thanks.
“We are an institute in a powerful death penalty.”
Is this just a mis-speak of “we are an instutute WITH a powerful death penalty”? This one doesn’t seem so bad to me. For me, what’s worse is what follows, which is not mis-speak of any sort: “The only countries that don’t have a drug problem are those with the death penalty.” Um what? But, hey, playing to the base, and believable enough for his followers.
“De-bank” I have no clue, though.
“De-bank” I have no clue, though.
Maybe he meant “un-bank”?
Is this just a mis-speak of “we are an instutute WITH a powerful death penalty”? This one doesn’t seem so bad to me.
I guess. The full quote: “ We are an institute in a powerful death penalty. We will put this on.” That doesn’t seem like a slip of the tongue. That sounds like my grandfather just before he passed, like someone struggling to articulate his thoughts.
That doesn’t mean we can’t conjure up a meaning. Rather, if that was his meaning, his brain let him down in expressing it. It was garbled. That was my Poppy. You could often tell what he meant (and often, not), but you could sense his frustration that he just couldn’t get out the words he wanted to.
And, yeah, “de-bank”? That one I can’t even speculate what he might have meant.
No. That was my point.
Then why did you phrase it as, “According to this board,” as if it some liberal hive mind belief rather than a belief you share?
And, yeah, “de-bank”? That one I can’t even speculate what he might have meant.
It means he’s freaking out over his banking fraud charges. He won’t be able to continue over-leveraging his properties to support his lavish lifestyle, and he wants everyone else to freak out about that too.
Not that he’s good at communicating that.
It means he’s freaking out over his banking fraud charges. He won’t be able to continue over-leveraging his properties to support his lavish lifestyle, and he wants everyone else to freak out about that too.
If that’s what he meant, his thoughts took a few detours to land on “They’re trying to de-bank you, and we will de-bank.”
If that’s what he meant, his thoughts took a few detours to land on “They’re trying to de-bank you, and we will de-bank.
It’s just another part of his “They’re coming for you I’m just in their way!” bit. He’s bullshitting his followers into thinking that if the government can kill his business, they’ll then immediately go after everyone who ever supported Trump.
