Is Trump facing his mortality and wanting to take the world down with him

Yeah, but having leaders dying in office from age related issues is less of an issue in the US than other democracies.

Despite the headline, this article has a bunch of examples:

Trump has a rare public moment of self-awareness

That’s a good example of how greatly his cognitive abilities have declined in the last five years.

I just don’t see Trump facing his own mortality. He sees himself as the center of human history and can’t imagine a world without him in it. If a doctor examined Trump and told him he had six months to live, Trump would reject this and tell his staff to find him a better doctor that would tell him he’s going to live for at least twenty more years.

Outside of them thinking they’ll be bodily sucked into Heaven, that’s pretty pretty much what they think. The left behind people are supposed to survive, so they can suffer. Everyone but them suffering is an important appeal of the fantasy to them.

I think this is lack of ability in office more than evidence of being delusional.

Trump is at his best in election mode, selling. He knows how to sell a dumb simple message to rubes using disjointed thoughts that tap into their prejudices and desires.

In office he’s embarrassed. The intractable issues that arise constantly are too much for him. His audience isn’t a bunch of MAGA fanatics but (quite often) journalists and political sophisticates. So he resorts (even more than ever) to blather to fill the airtime he has to fill.

My guess is if you put him on the stump he’d be as effective as he was a year back.

His need for vengeance vs. his need to be the center. The grim reaper will eventually overcome him, the cause the limits of human life which he should not be subject to, his vengeance against humanity will burn long after he is gone for this.

I tend to think the rapture has always been going on, biblical examples start with Enoch in Genesis (pre-flood), the Stoning of Stephan in Acts is insight as to how it happens. It agrees the words of Jesus, ‘some of you will not taste death till…’ And continues today. Basically God takes people out of their life when close to death, but they do not go through it, but bystanders see them die. As such (and a dream I had), are many of those who were killed in the gas chambers of WW2 were actually raptured. As such as i see it we are all ‘left behind’.

No. He could just start a nuclear war at any point in time if his desire was to take the world with him. There’s nothing stopping from accessing the nuclear football and starting a nuclear war in minutes. He’s evil but he’s far from a Bond villain or Red Skull.

He has proven himself very patient in exacting his revenge. He is still holding out vengeance against Obama for ?something?. He knows how to play the power card, he knows the game of slowly heating the frog, he knows how to inflict maximum damage and get others to inflict the damage while he sits back. It’s not that he wants to use the nuke, he wants WW 3 while proclaiming peace and casting blame at others. Many may want to dismiss this as he is stupid, but this has been his history.

One nuke is nothing compared to ww3, but the cards are not yet in play for that.

I agree with this. As I said above, I don’t think he’ll ever really face death. Not to say that he thinks he’s immortal, but his life has been one continuous parade of him getting out of impossible scrapes. So when death is imminent he’ll be looking for the loophole. Why wouldn’t he? He’s found a loophole for every other consequence people warned him about.

And yes, there’ll be people around him going “sir, we can save you, just one more treatment”. Because that’s how it’s always worked, and those are the people that he rewards. His last thoughts won’t be “here comes death”, it’ll be “here comes the treatment that will save me.”

You still need actual evidence that this is his secret motivation rather than him being evil, stupid and childish as usual. The simpler explanation is usually the correct one. Trump is not a complex person and he’s only gotten simpler in the past decade as his mind fails.

Trump has two words to describe those he admires - strong and tough. His self image is to be seen as tough. When the world responds to his tariff craziness it demonstrates that he is tough. Not that he is right, only that he is tough.

There is nothing tougher than being the first leader after Truman to use the Bomb.

We can name names. It’ll be Robert Kennedy Jr.

I don’t see Trump wanting to destroy the world because he’s too much of a megalomaniac. He’s expecting to be remembered by future generations as the Greatest President Ever - and to do that there has to be future generations.

If Trump starts a nuclear war and destroys the world, who will be left to name their newborn children Donald? Who will build all the statues to him? Who will put his face on Mount Rushmore? Who will rename Manhattan as Trump City?

Trump’s not fantasizing about Armageddon. He’s fantasizing about a Thousand Year Reich.

The sad thing is of course that there’s no difference between Trump trying to make a positive legacy of a genuinely Great America, and trying to burn it all down.

He’s a moron, who is not interested in learning anything about how government, the economy or institutions work. He’s also, at our most generous, amoral + white supremacist (because he’s white).

So, on things like the tariffs; no I don’t think it’s a secret plan to bring it all down. I think he’s really that stupid; and would see a hypothetical future where Americans toil in sweatshops and the country has a trade surplus with almost everyone else as a positive thing.

Trump believes the world will conform to his world view, in it’s entirety, complete with minute to minute changes. That’s tough and it’s no more complicated than planning a pro wrestling gig.

Assume a fantastic, totally unrealistic scenario. A good starting point for the Donald. Assume he gets the JCS to drop two Abombs on southern Gaza. Any amount of world reaction would only confirm that he is tough. It’s all a matter of positive thinking.

When it does happen, one thing we all need to mentally prepare ourselves for is his death getting blamed on some nefarious woke forces. Just imagine the worst, most destructive narrative ever and prepare yourself for it.

“As you all know, nefarious forces deceived President Trump into supporting Operation Warp Speed to bring a rapid end to the COVID crisis, to produce an mRNA vaccine that we’ve since learned is extremely dangerous. What nobody knew up until this point is that President Trump volunteered to be the first tester of the vaccine, to ensure everyone else’s safety, but sadly his bravery has now resulted in his shocking and untimely death. The COVID vaccine killed President Trump, and liberals are cheering that their plan has succeeded beyond their wildest imaginings. We intend to bring charges against Dr. Anthony Fauci for a murder that can only be described as a politically motivated assassination.”

Yeah, I shouldn’t have added the ‘left-behinds’. What I was trying to say is what if the Rapture isn’t people being sucked up to Heaven, but just being vaporised – like Carousel in Logan’s Run.

I think that Hanlon’s Razor applies even to Trump. Even when he was young and healthy, his normal modus operandi was to destroy everything he touched. Not because he was malicious, but because he was incompetent. The malice just comes in in that he doesn’t care that his incompetence destroys everything. And the difference now, compared to when he was young and healthy, is that now, as President of the US, he touches everything in the world, and hence is destroying everything in the world.

I observe a great deal of deliberate malice that enhances his incompetence..
