Is Trump's pettiness over Megyn Kelly going to hurt him [plus Ramos incident]

Trump actually had a long back-and-forth with Ramos, in the same room, and wiped the floor with him.

Again, only if you ignore the lies he had to tell, his replies about how he would make his plans become real in a “more human way” are empty promises. And the citizen birth right was tested many times before in the courts, Trump was as clueless as ever.

Since Ramos did not name himself, and as you agree, there is no indicator Trump knew what Ramos looks like, exactly how can you show that Trump was lying when he said he didn’t know who that was?

You do understand that Ramos speaks English with a heavy Mexican accent, right? It was pretty clear he was from Univision. That’s still no indication that Trump knew that that was Ramos interrupting the press conference.

Let’s not pretend it is so unusual for reporters to shout out questions without being called on. It’s pretty standard. Ramos wasn’t even the only one at that particular presser to do it. He was just the only one ejected for it.

Now that was ignorant, There are other well known Hispanic networks, like Telemundo. Once again it is clear that the right wing media is giving very silly talking points to their viewers and readers.

He’s the only one who stood up and began a de facto monologue and refused to shut up. It was a naked attempt by Ramos to make a name for himself. He also not only interrupted the proceedings but argued with and talked over Trump the entire time Trump indulged him after allowing Ramos back into the room.

Not after the other reporters reminded him who he was (his act of not knowing was not accepted by other reporters) and what would happen if Trump did not let Ramos come back in, even if he was rude.

He already shut down a Telemundo reporter last month at a Texas presser.

I was listening on NPR to reporters discussing it. They said that yes, if after a while you see that the press conference is likely to end without you being called upon, it is acceptable to speak out of turn sometimes. It definitely is not acceptable to do that at the start of the press conference, and definitely not acceptable to speechify instead of asking the question.

Some more on that:

Instead of rallying around a fellow member of the press, however, many journalists have sided if not with Trump, then certainly against Ramos. At best, they say, Ramos was being inappropriate and disrespectful. At worst, he’s a “conflict junkie” (as the Washington Post’s Michael E. Miller wrote) who was “pretending to be bullied” by Trump (as Mika Brzezinski said on MSNBC).

But instead, many journalists have said that Ramos was out of line. The surface criticism is that Ramos refused to follow the well-established rules of press conferences by shouting out questions instead of waiting to be called on — and that he was baiting Trump by doing so.

The rules of political journalism are that when a political figure says he isn’t taking questions, it’s okay to shout whenever, just in case he or she (or a staffer) gets tempted into answering. But when there’s an organized press conference in which the figure is taking questions — especially once one journalist has been called on — other journalists are supposed to respect order.

Fact remains, you have no idea whether Tramp knew what Ramos looked like. So your accusations fall flat.

Not so, the bits of evidence I found points at Trump knowing who he was facing, unless you want to press the point that he showed gross ignorance, and I would be fine with that too because that does not help Trump either.

And “Tramp” does look like a very Freudian slip.

“Gross ignorance” of what Ramos looks like? Most probably. I confess to “gross ignorance” of it as well, and of most other reporters.

Should I bother posting a cite of the reporters who disagree? Even your cite mentions that: It’s not totally unheard of for people to shout out of turn at press conferences, and such people are generally ignored rather than bounced.

And that’s the crux of it : Most of the time it is ignored (and sometimes it works). But ejecting someone for doing it? Not standard.

It’s not standard for a reporter to stand up at the start of the press conference and harangue the politician, as well. Although Ramos is hardly a reporter. He’s a political activist.

And no, Trump is not standard. Sanders is pretty standard in that respect - when the #BlackLivesMatter idiots hijacked his appearance, he ran away. Trump’s comment was that Sanders showed weakness. Trump said he’d not run away. And he actually stood behind his words. Amazing, for a political candidate, to actually mean what he says.

That’s why he’s leading by 15-20 points every other Republican.

It wasn’t the start of the press conference. The video going around about the ejection doesn’t show the beginning. Check it out here.

It was after one question was answered. Yes, it was at the start of the press conference. Ramos was lying when he claimed, later, that he was waiting for his turn to ask a question when Trump ordered him out.

That’s not exactly what he said. Here is an ABC news video interview (with a transcript) where he speaks about it.

But I agree he does have a confrontational, aggressive style. He’s done it with Obama as well, on this same issue. Pretty funny to see people extol Donald Trump for doing the same thing, but attack Ramos when he does it.

What are the chances that Trump did not see this Time Cover of Ramos from April 2015, as one of The 100 Most Influential People of 2015?

It must have killed Trump that Ramos, from Univision, made the cover, and Jeb and Hillary made the list, and he didn’t.

Trump lose voter support for being an asshole??

I’ve always wondered how politicians like Cruz or Walker could attract votes, in spite of being assholes. The Trump phenomenon has solved that mystery. They get votes not in spite of being assholes but because they’re assholes. A certain percentage of the electorate (less than 50% I hope) would be delighted to be able to vote for the real thing instead of a pale imitation.

I had a similar awakening from my naïveté when I started talking to the villagers here about Thai politics: “Why do you support ¡*&#@! ? Don’t you know he’s a crook?” They’d look at me like I was nuts. “Of course we know he’s a crook. But he’s a smart crook and that’s what this country needs!”

I think it could happen if he’s an asshole to the wrong person. The people who like assholes tend to like them because they are assholes to the people they think deserve it.

Since Trump is a genuine asshole who only cares about himself and is bad at faking otherwise, and because he’s not been consistent in the past, I could see him targeting the wrong person.
