Trump fans: Too stupid to vote in the first place?

Long story made short: Earlier today, I had a conversation with two women who have worked as poll workers in our area; they’re needing more and asked me, but you couldn’t pay me enough to do that. Anyway, they were telling horror stories about some of the people they’ve encountered who don’t know where to vote, or that you have to register first, or any number of other things, and wondered how many Trump supporters will not be able to vote in November for those reasons.

I hope so.

It seems to me that a lot of Trump supporters that one reads about are more interested in demonstrating, yelling rude things to people who disagree with them, and possibly drinking to excess. This does not sound like a reliable electorate to me.

Again, as the OP, one can hope so.

This is all irrelevant because Trump has the best field staff doing his GOTV. It’ll be the best GOTV you’ve ever seen, believe me. Believe me. You’ve never seen anything like his GOTV. His great field staff will be turning people out to vote like crazy.

Meh.

Yeah statistically they are not the usual likely voter cohorts but they managed to vote in the primaries. Note that the polls are minimally of those who have at least managed to register to vote. Like it or not more voters voted in the GOP primary process this time than any other time in history and Trump really did get more votes than any other GOP primary candidate ever has before.

No question that his strongest support is among White less educated voters who have in the past dealt themselves out of the voting process. People who feel that they are a group under distress and resent the ladders that other groups (yeah, all those “others”) are getting. Ignorant, naive, and of questionable motivations, sure, but they are not necessarily stupid.

They know how to vote. Whether or not they’ll bother to and if there are enough of them to offset all those who dislike Trump so very much … that’s another thing.

Ok, ok!

I’ll move it to the Pit.

Just leave me alone, all of you!

Me neither. It sounds like the USA finally found a way to get in on soccer hooliganism without having to follow soccer.

In much the same way that “the Macarena” allowed people to line dance without having to listen to country music…

Sounds like these voters may be about as dumb as the would-be Gore voters from Florida.

Not as dumb as the ten thousand Jews for Buchanan! Putzim!

I clicked to volunteer to help when I registered at my current location. I have not been contacted. :frowning:

[Aside]

Weirdest thing just happened to me. I was gonna cop a line from Firesign Theater, which I remembered as “No Deliveries Sector D”. But I pondered, not being sure, so I thought I’d just google No deliveries Sector Firesign. About eight from the top, an archived post to a scurrilous message board that shall remain tasteless…

I almost stole a joke from myself! Suck on that, Carlos Mencia!

[/aside]

You’ve stolen from the rest; now steal from the best!

At least people too stupid to have valid photo ID are kept from voting. Bet they cancel out the Trump voters too dumb to find the polls.

I wish it was only the stupid, drunk dimwits that were behind Trump.

But the truth is, there are a lot of intelligent people that are so fed up with the government, perceive it to be controlled by Democrats, and hate the thought of Hillary Clinton having ANY power that they will gladly support a grand douchenozzle like Trump.

Intelligent people make mistaken choices. In an election which will be chosen by people voting AGAINST a candidate instead of for them its anybody’s guess as to which candidate will be most hated come election time.

Throw in the fact that the Libertarian candidate, a former governor who leans to the left and has more experience as a Republican than Trump, shows a good chance of stealing votes from both sides of the Pubby/Demmy boundary. This election promises to be the biggest fuckup in USA history.

I never thought of voting 3rd party but I just can’t bring myself to vote for either.

This is the first election I’ve witnessed were people I know on both sides seem totally blind to the other side. Dems can’t fathom the amount of disdain many have for Hilary and the sizable portion that don’t love Trump but want to see an outsider come in and shake up a broken system. Trump supporters see only the hype and insulate themselves only with people on the Trump Train and can’t understand that Dems still have a slight electoral advantage that any Republican candidate has to overcome. One way or the other one side is going to be shocked in November.

How did the poll workers know that the dumb would-be voters were Trumpkins? Were they wearing Trump hats and sporting glassy smiles and fake tans?

Anyway, sneering at potential voters for lacking the smarts to complete the process sounds shamefully elitist.

my bolding

It will be an even bigger fuckup if Sanders runs as an Independent after the convention. It could easily split just enough of the left to hand the White House to Trump.

This is about as likely to happen as Republicans spurning Trump at the convention, causing him to run as an independent and handing the Presidency to Clinton.

Neither independent candidate scenario will occur.

I agree with the “biggest fuckup” potential, but I find it very unlikely that many Democrats will be voting for Gary Johnson. He is far more likely to appeal to conservatives who could never bring themselves to vote for Trump. By and large I think Democrats are generally fine with Hillary’s policies, even if she personally has all the charismatic appeal of fingernails on a blackboard. She will at least be competent; Trump would be something unimaginable.

Most people I know view it more along the lines of having a choice of drinking a steaming cup of diarrhea or chewing up a turd. They don’t like either candidate one bit, and are desperately trying to determine which one is the lesser of the two evils.

Some of the Republicans are siding with Trump, under the theory that he’ll be reined in by the party eventually. Others are breaking ranks and voting Hillary because they figure as odious as she is, she’s still better than Trump. Some of the Democrats are voting Hillary, because they can’t fathom voting for Trump. Others are voicing opinions about sitting the election out. I can say that I have not heard any Democrat friends leaning Trump-wise though.

Hey, around 14 and a half million of them managed to find their way to the primaries, don’t assume the rest won’t figure out the process. Until September the polls are meaningless anyway, and the only ones that really count are in November.
