Trump fans: Too stupid to vote in the first place?

Perhaps winning the presidency is not really the objective. Perhaps he’s simply ensuring he has a dedicated audience for Trump TV.

Conservative pundit P.J. O’Rourke, last week:

"I am endorsing Hillary, and all her lies and all her empty promises. “It’s the second-worst thing that can happen to this country, but she’s way behind in second place. She’s wrong about absolutely everything, but she’s wrong within normal parameters.”

I wonder if Hillary would consider P.J. O’Rourke for VP.

Personally, I’ll take the endorsement, and wait until Nov. 9 to comment.

Two possibilities, either Trump makes America great again or the system crashes and burns. Either is fine with me. Of course what would probably happen is an antagonistic relationship with congress worse than what Obama gets.

Yeah, great again, but as great as America was when?

As Sparky the Penguin noted, A survey showed that most Trump supporters think that we should go back to how great America was around the year 2000.

Here’s hoping you’re right. Trump is just fucking scary.

Hey, if you’re nostalgic for the Clinton administration, have I got good news for you!

My sister was a poll worker during the primaries here in Maryland. She is a registered independent. Used to lean strongly Republican, though we haven’t discussed politics in years.

She said she had several encounters on primary voting day with voters who were really angry because Maryland has returned to paper ballots. All of the voters identified themselves, during their harangues as Trump voters.

I thought, and still think, this is really weird and wondered if there was something specific that was setting them off. Were there specific rumors that the paper ballots were to allow for anti-Trumpian chicanery or something? In any case, they weren’t too stupid to vote, just aggressively mean.

I have two good friends, both women, who are inclined to vote for Trump. Neither is stupid, racist, or evil. People of good will can disagree.

I’d prefer Al Franken, since he’s funnier.

People of good will, even those not stupid, racist, or evil, can still be idiots, and you may want to keep an eye on them and those qualifiers you gave them…

Maxims like that don’t work this time. There is no non-stupid, non-racist, non-evil reason to vote for Trump. The things he advocates are either stupid or evil/racist. He has not put forward a single position that is not.

His wall and tax policy will balloon the debt. His policy on immigrants and Muslims are racist. His desire to attack everyone who says anything wrong about him and increase libel laws is just plain evil.

He is also a blatantly evil person–he’s a real life version of the silly character that you like to play on the Dope. It would be as stupid to vote for evil!Skald as it would be to vote for him.

Good, smart people disagree, but there are morals where we all pretty much overlap, and Trump violates those. Trump is so evil you could put him in a movie and no one would complain about him being the bad guy.

It may have never happened before–not in my lifetime, at least–but this time, we have an evil-aligned candidate. That means you can’t vote for him unless you support evil or are stupid.

The action of supporting Trump with full knowledge of what he supports (and his NPD) is itself evil. To do so without that knowledge is stupid.

Here’s an example. Option 2 is either stupid or evil. You do not want the US government to crash and burn. Option 1 is impossible.

The only saving grace is that some people can be stupid in some ways but not others.

I would vote for evil Skald long before Trump. But I disagree about no one complaining about him being the bad guy in a movie. Everyone would bitch that he was too unrealistic, no one could be that combination of stupidity, evil, and success.

So far Trump has done nothing but be a blowhard on TV. I’ve looked real evil in the eye. You’ve set the bar for evil very low.

Does he have the potential to be disastrous? Absolutely. Is there the potential that evil deeds can be done in his name if he gets elected? Certainly. But right now he is a buffoon spouting off half thought out ideas. Until you meet a hardcore terrorist or interview a woman after she drowns her baby in a bathtub don’t shrilly call a narcissistic reality show host evil. It cheapens the word.

Agree. he is not evil, he is an idiot. Most idiots are not evil, they are not smart enough to be evil. To me, being evil requires someone to have the cunning to intentionally be misleading and intentionally lead people to act against their own morals and best interests.

Trump is just a dumbass. I honestly think he believes the diarrhea coming out of his mouth. If he did not, and he was doing all of this intending to mislead his Trumpets, that would be evil, but he is just the jester leading the people stupid enough to follow him. Not evil, just reprehensible.

Err… do you have that extension by any chance?

I disagree with this characterization of “evil.” Evil can be banal. Evil can be simply a disregard for the impact of your actions. You flick a burning cigarette into a pile of brush and walk away, not caring what happens next.

To borrow from Hannah Arendt: “Despite all the efforts of the prosecution, everybody could see that this man was not a “monster,” but it was difficult indeed not to suspect that he was a clown.”

Crap. Yes I do. I forgot.

Mods, I humbly throw myself on the floor at your high throne. I’m past the edit window and can’t fix.

:o

I do want the current government to crash and burn, there is too much money being made by too many corporations and politicians, it is an cyclical relationship and the taxpayers are paying for it. They won’t give up the gravy train willingly. I know I will be voting non-establishment, non-corporate shill candidates for the foreseeable future.

Trump is indeed a blowhard, but you can tell he is intelligent, and he has shown negotiation and leadership skills in his line of work. He has no political experience which is good in some ways and bad in others. The president has advisers, let’s hope if Trump becomes president he will have some good ones and listen to the information they present him.
