Is TV Tropes now a pay site?

I keep getting a message from something called SparkPay demanding an ID and password.

Sounds like it’s down/possibly hacked.

I don’t get what kind of hack does that. There’s nothing about it on their twitterfeed as yet, though.

I do hope they come back. How else would I absorb all those hours of otherwise useless spare time…

Working for me

Wrong twitterfeed. DoS attack apparently.

I just came from TVTropes. It’s up and working fine for me. No demands for payment.

Go to the Game Room. Free Association, Questions Only, Bakers Dozen…

You could even start a thread called “Ways for Me to Absorb All Those Hours of Otherwise Useless Spare Time”.

I will say I’m not surprised at all. The site has a history of disgruntled people trying to take it down. The admin seems to actively engage the trolls on his site, practically begging them to escalate. Back when I was still a troper, I tried getting them to not be so adversarial, but it fell on deaf ears. And what’s even funnier is that they very often give in directly to the demands of the attackers.

I mean, it’s a place where, if you make a mistake, they will immediately ban you, requiring you to beg for your account back. And that’s just the lowest tier of punishments. (Don’t get me started on the Google Bounce.) Odd for a place with a bunch of guidelines and almost no actual rules.

It’s a great resource, and the non-wiki related forums are okay, but the actual wiki community sucks. It doesn’t surprise me that some people get so pissed off as to attack it on a fairly regular basis.
