We had a really hideous fake tree this year, so it was down by 1 pm on Christmas day. The lights in the living room, however, are still up. They look cute, and add color, and will probably be there for at least another month before I get sick of them.
I’m going to take a few ornaments off tonight. After a few days they’ll all be off. Then I’ll put the (artificial) tree in my bedroom.
One of my cats loves the tree so much, I started doing this. He sleeps under it and plays with it. I leave one bell on it, because he likes to ring it.
Eventually he gets bored with it in my room. But then in December, I move it to the living room and it’s exciting again. THen when I move it back to my room, that’s exciting too.
…you know, when I have my own place, I want to have a tree up all year 'round. It’d be artificial, of course, and I’d change the decorations for each season/holiday.
Yes, I know I’m weird.
There are 12 Days of Christmas, as you may have heard. Dec. 25 is only the first day of Christmas. Christmas is not over until the Feast of the Epiphany on Jan. 6. The decorations stay up until then!
I’m with Labdad - came down 31/12/02 - although it looked so pretty there was a part of me that was tempted to keep it all year.
Even though it felt like I had just finished decorating the blasted thing, it and all other holiday vestiges came down the Friday after Christmas.
It was in the way, and was shedding like a monkey, and besides, I had forgotten to water it, so it was really dry. I was tired of the mess.
I think that next year I will go with a Christmas Tree Hologram, assuming they will have those by Christmas. Just think how very easy that would be. Your CTH package would also include little capsules of “Christmas Tree Smell” for you to disperse about the house. No fuss, no muss.
Funny you should mention this. It came down around 12 minutes ago. SDMB was down, so I had some time, took the tree down and the SDMB came back up. Must have been some form of Karma.
Our tree stays up til Epiphany (and goes up the day after Thanksgiving). Or until it’s convenient to take it down. (This year it looks like it’s coming down Sunday instead of waiting it out til Monday. So it goes.)

You take your tree down?
Ours is still up. I’m not sure when I’ll take it down-- I suppose it depends on when our apartment’s special dumpster for Christmas trees will be removed.
Once, back home, we had ours up until Valentine’s Day. It had browned a bit, but only a bit. It was still pretty. I think we (read: I) finally caved and took it down because the water in the stand was turning into the mosquito day-care center from hell.
Ours came down the day after Christmas. We don’t normally undecorate that early, but we went to Baltimore on the 28th, and I didn’t want to come home to an undecorating chore. It’s generally gone before new years day.
No, but only because it actually FELL over the day after Christmas. Nobody was injured. (the stand broke)
Yes, because as a good little Presbyterian I keep it up until Epiphany.
Unfortunately this year Epiphany is on a Monday (which is also the day that the new semester begins and my life is subsequently over until May), so it will come down Sunday evening.
We keep our lights and tree up until Epiphany. Of course last year the lights stayed up for… uh, a long time until I had an epiphany and realized they were trashing up the front of the house.
Coming down this weekend. Husband is at home today taking the outdoor lights, which didn’t actually get put up until the 26th due to business and crappy weather. In general I like to have them up through New Year, and then we take them down the following weekend unless we’re too busy.
We bought a live Christmas tree this year. It is about two feet tall, and I have it sitting in a little pot on my sewing machine. We’ll probably move it outside when it gets bigger, but it won’t be “coming down” per se.
…stays up till St. Paddy’s day! I love a loong christmas season-hell, XMAS should be moved to mid-january-thta’s when the deepest cold of winter prevails-when we need it most!
Who elese keeps their tree up into march?
Join the club…our tree seems to be a member of the Elf Union…once Christmas was over, so was its job. Without reason, while we were sitting in the living room it just fell over.
Broke about 30 ornaments.
Still up, won’t descend until Epiphany. Or perhaps the day after.
Ours is an Astro-tree, too, so no concern about fire hazards.
I think I’ll take mine down today. The cats keep pulling all the decorations off, and I gave up putting them back on in early December, so it’s a miserable partially decorated thing. It’s only still up because I can’t stand to think about it, and pretend it’s not there.
