Color me thoroughly unsurprised.
My old username, Juliana: no. No one calls me that. It’s a net name only.
Ann Onimous, OTOH: lots of people call me Annie or AnnO. But they’re all people I met online.
You’re not alone! I’ve been JSexton, short for Justin, all my life. I’ve used JSexton on the internet since, well, since before there was a true internet. Internet privacy is vastly overrated.
Nobody calls me misling except my husband occasionally.
I’ve used the nick since I first went online - sort of online - it was a dial up BBS dedicated to weavers and spinners and such, called Arachne’s Web. That was in 1985.
Back in college (in the early-mid 90’s), I was known as “Jophiel” or just “Joph” to a collection of people. I used to use the name on IRC and hung out in the college’s unofficial chat channel. Even though a lot of us hung out in person on a regular basis, the name “Joph” stuck both online and off.
These days it’s just an online thing though.
You and me: bff
Hm. Maybe, in a descriptive sense.
“Hazel Ice” started as a joke with a coworker. We’re both teachers and noted how in the classroom, we take on personas, much like Beyonce claims to become Sasha Fierce on stage. Hence, Hazel as an old lady-ish name (I can be very old school about things) and Ice to represent my icy disposition in the classroom. At least I like to think I am. Said coworker and I have exchanged emails as our alter egoes, outside of work, of course.
Sort of. L is the initial of my first name. Shaw is my surname.
Well they don’t tend to tack the nz bit on the end, that would be weird.
If I was signing up again today, I’d have selected Mooma as my user name. That’s the name of my main WoW character, and the name all my WoW friends call me. Well, they call me Mooms, as a derivative.
No. My SO bought me the Platypod model on that page, and I have a picture of a baby platypus as my Facebook profile picture, but that’s it for any RL connection. I just think they’re neat animals.
Yes.
My name is Mattias Stenberg and I’ve used “Stoneburg” ever since I started using the internet in 1995. People call me Stenberg or Stoneburg, the latter being an ‘americanized’ version of my name.
I’m not a huge fan of internet anonymity. Or rather I like it in theory, but in practice I find that it tend to turn people into completely retarded assholes. So I always put my name out when asked.
I’ve been in several heated discussions where people start throwing threats around. My reply is always to give them my full name, address and phone number and invite them for coffy. So far nobody has called or shown up. My impression is that a persons e-penis is inversely proportional to their irl-penis. People usually say that I am a much bigger asshole IRL than online.
Not lately.
Back when I was a BAD (Bay Area Doper) most of my personal friends were also Dopers and they refered to me as Jack pretty much exclusively.
My real name isn’t ‘Jack,’ by the way.
I’m Kricket with a K because my give name is Kristine with a K but people IRL either call me Kricket or Kristy.
The friends I chat with in and out of EQ call me Vin short for Vinadrea or Kusch short for Kuscheltier desTeufels.
I’ve been toying with changing my user name here to Kuscheltier desTeufels for a while but I don’t have the heart to that’s been my name forever here. Although a name change would make the occational vanity search easier. Kricket/cricket comes up a lot with nothing to do with me.
This name and various permuatations is only used on various messageboards and whenever I’m in a RPG as a Bard.
…Norrköping? Yea, I can see why nobody ever shows up… at least throw some cake into the deal to make people more willing to overlook the location.
Btw, anyone got a microscope to borrow? I need to have a look at my e-penis.
Now I’m wondering how e-penis size works out for those of us what lack the meatspace version.
Some people call me Rebo in real life. I started using it as a handle playing NTN Texas Hold 'Em, and that’s what they call me. (Rebo is my shortened nickname from the MMP.)
I have license plates that say Rebo.
My real name is Robin, and my family will call me Rob sometimes.
Most of my friends will refer to me by my user name occasioanlly. If you were to wander around my home town and ask a random person about 'the madrabbitwoman" and there is a 50/50 chance they will know of me (but have no idea what my real name is)
Plenty of people call me Opal in real life, even people who I didn’t meet online. (I should add that this is my online identity in general and not SDMB specific)
