Well, then I also wonder if his past, his attitude, PLUS the slur had something to his firing.
It seems there are a whole lot more reasons to fire him than just race.

I only said I was perplexed because the working areas of my brain and empathic response thought that, theoretically, there ought to have been some recognition of common ground.
The actual practice doesn’t surprise me either.
You can use it any time you like; I take Visa.
Wee Bairn, did I address any of your questions and what is *your * take on it all?
Is there any evidence from other cast members that T.R. Knight and Patrick Dempsey aren’t talking to each other? I hadn’t heard that.
Washington is a nutter, that’s all.
You did. From my limited knowledge it does seem like blacks (males and females)are a bit less accepting of homosexuals than whites are. I don’t know the history on why that is, assuming it is valid.
It could be that they are accepting of gays , but don’t think its acceptable to pubically state this.
I think we’ve seen this played out many times before, when an ego got bigger than the talent behind it (and sometimes regardless of how much talent was behind it). I guess some actors are in the habit of forgetting that it’s the showbiz industry - it’s a job to make money for everyone involved. Ask Suzanne Somers how irreplaceable the big star of any show is.
But what does it really matter what happens non-publicly if the public result is non-acceptance.
For instance, in the example I described, that guy could have been as accepting in private as he wanted to be but (i) I didn’t know that and was made to feel not only less than, but threatened by his remark, (ii) by being reduced from a human being to a thing, encouragement was given to others to do the same, and, by extension and a combination of (i) and (ii), (iii) discrimination continues and harassment and violence (it’s easier to assault someone you see as less than human) are encouraged.
What I’m encouraged by is one of my good friends, who was raised to be a homophobe, as we currently use the word. When first I met him and even now, he will occasionally repeat the hateful words and information he was taught growing up. However, we are friends because of his private and public treatment of me, and, truer to the person he actually is, his efforts to grow beyond what he was taught and the respect and caring he shows me as a person.
Agree. I personally know a bisexual black chick who will go out of her way to tell you how “gross” lesbianism is, yet in private…
Yeah? Yeah?
Unless your name is Barbra or Nathan, don’t be a shit.
:smack: Whoops! I realized that it sounded like it was also Dempsey he was choking a few years ago. It wasn’t Dempsey, it was a costume guy who was on-set to watch for wardrobe continuity. Somehow between takes, Washington ended up with a magazine folded up and tucked in his pocket. The wardrobe guy asked him to remove it to be consistent with the other shots, and that’s when the rage and choking began.
There is no official and/or reliable source, but industry rumour has it that the male wardrobe crew guy was a “friend of Dorothy’s”. Whether he was or wasn’t gay doesn’t make that much of a difference. Either way, Washington assaulted a TV crew member which resulted in a restraining order and Washington being removed from the set in handcuffs.
Looooooooooose canon!
Does that mean Isaah will be replaced by Jennilee Harrison playing his dumb-as-a-box-of-hair, clumsy cousin, Cindy Burke?
No, I understood. I meant that, as you said, his past indicates that he is a loose cannon and could be a liability for them.
Nathan?
Regards,
Shodan
I’m guessing Nathan Lane.
Right. That is a theatre meme. Streisand and Lane are the only two divas that can get away with being a shit.
Sung to the tune of “Blue Velvet.”
ABC’s mistake would seem to be that they didn’t fire him on the spot when he first pulled his faggot shit. Not only is this guy anti-homosexual, but his “yes massa” crap is pretty clearly anti-white. Plus he is accusing them of discriminating against his tall stature as well. It’s about time 6’1" men started to fight for acceptance!
Maybe he can make a buddy show with George Lopez now.
Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification.
Oh, yeah, I hear ya, and I agree. Unfortunately, however, I’ve learned over the years to expect as little as possible from people–even from other oppressed peoples. Especially when it comes to really giving a damn about the human rights and dignity of people who are different from them–or, more to the point, from the majority whom they, themselves, are appealing to/fighting tooth-and-nail for acceptance. The less you expect, the less you’re disappointed/hurt.*
This sucks on some fundamental level, I admit, and I struggle with it at times, but it’s certainly been instrumental in helping me maintain a shitload of my sanity.
Oh, and I’m trying to cut down on the credit card usage–paying interest is a bitch. So, can I use the Sharpton bit for now and pay you next Tuesday? Or whatever day of the week it was that Wimpy used to say?
(His name was Wimpy, right?)
*My position is more nuanced than this, obviously (or perhaps not obviously), but in the interest of brevity, there it is in a nutshell.
[Sorry about the triple posts, y’all, but I’m exhausted, so the “fit it all into one post, you fool” part of my brain isn’t quite with me at the moment.]
I’m not trying to be snarky or stir up some shit or what-have-you, but could you please explain what you mean by this? In what way is what he said “clearly” anti-white?
I also didn’t understand the George Lopez reference. Has he been involved in some shit, too, only to blame it on anti-Hispanic/Latino bigotry?
