I’ve only just been able to check in on my question. I’m not sure that I was really trying to “dig” at anyone so much as clarify something for my own knowledge (and possibly reduce some of my ignorance).
My only real concern is about policy decisions based on the “chemicals are bad”/“natural is all good” thinking or other similar things that weren’t critically thought out. I think that many of these things can lead to policy based on superficial and/or inaccurate analysis. The actual discussion that I cited was a (most accurate I could recall) paraphrasing of a cable TV call-in show associated with the city of Ottawa’s (intended or implemented I don’t know) pesticide ban. I think that this was sometime around 2006 or 2007.
The discussion has been fascinating btw and my wife and I do use butter:)
