I was outside tonight around 2 am and I was staring at the moon and it dawned on me. It is still amzing that human beings were able to make it to the moon, get out, kick some dirt around, and make it back to earth. It seems that people have forgotten all about that amazing accomplishment.
It gets swept behind the gamecubes, fancy new movie graphics, and cool cell phones. Its just not as impressive to the youth today as their X-Box’s or Jackass TV shows on MTv.
Sometime go outside and just look at the moon and imagine yourself standing on it looking back at earth. How many times have humans walked on the moon? Why don’t we ever go back?
Going to the mon is climbing Everest. Sure, it’s tempting because it’s there, but that doesn’t mean people are going to be building condos anytime soon.
I’m hoping they put that space station to good use and rig it as a refueling station for lunar trips (with an eye on permanent installations) instead of spending a few billion a year studying the effects of weightlessness on tiny screws. A radiotelescope array build on the far side of the moon would be mega-awesome.
Not that I have anything against white American men, but isn’t it about time a woman walked on the moon? I’d be willing to volunteer, just to help even things out.
Check this link out. You can actually see the pixel generated by the lunar module left on the moon’s surface, as well as it’s shadow. Somebody provided this in another thread a day or two back. Don’t know who it was but thanks to them nevertheless.
I think the most amazing thing is that man made it to the moon a mere 66 years after the invention of a self-propelled flying machine. Isn’t humanity great?
NASA will have my deepest awe when we have a personed mission to Mars. Could you imagine that? Could one even begin to imagine the incredible splendour if, for the first time in history, a human being actually stepped foot on another planet?
Another planet! My God!
Seriously, I could go on for hours, because just the thought of that fills me with an indescribable sense of awe.
P.S. If someone claims the moon-landing was fake, counter them with evidence. We’re here to eliminate ignorance, not mock the ignorant.
