Isn't Sarah Palin basically a female George W. Bush?

And what is Palin’s qualfication that matches Obama’s professorship of constitutional law? Or his law degree? Under traditional American government, a president with this kind of experience and knowledge might be very useful in preventing the kinds of abuses we see with torture, Gitmo, wiretapping, etc. and the country wouldn’t waste time on those kinds of controversies.

Palin had to go to five podunk colleges before finally graduating. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/nation/politics/bal-te.palinedu05sep05,0,576419.story

This makes W smarter. So I’m voting for McCain/Palin, because stupidity and lying are not yet at record lows, and as an overbiting American, I’m all about setting records. Did I mention I’m a Raiders fan? Can the Raiders go winless?

Excuse me? Dan Quayle passed the Indiana bar, which presumably means he really is of above average intelligence. (Of course the same could be said of Alberto Gonzales.)

And George W. Bush got a Harvard MBA. He is smarter than the average American. But much, much dumber than the average POTUS.

Exactly, which is why I stated that Bush’s experience did not necessarily make him a good President, while Palin’s lack of such experience is also true of Obama. Think of it as a twofer.

Apparently your experience of 2001-2005 happened on a completely different planet from mine.

I was thinking the same thing while reading the Times article. Paranoia inspired secrecy throughout her “administrations”, as well as numerous occasions of unethical behavior (maybe not just paranoid then?); the hyper-politicization of a small town mayoral election for the first time in its history (was she going to outlaw abortion for the 10k people living in the city limits?); frightening ideas about censorship, as well as conviction that every action is part of carrying out “God’s will”.

Of course, the education, and pedigree of the two are in stark contrast. Bush got into elite universities on family legacy, but surely osmosis would have done more to prep him for being in the nation’s highest branch of government more than bouncing around between state universities and junior colleges. (Never mind that he was never actually successful in any business he had to run.)

My feeling of Palin is that she the type of person to run one of those home owner’s associations that you hear horror stories about. The one where you can expect a letter if your grass is 1/8" too long; or wind up with an illegitimate fine at Christmas for having the wrong color drapes, after making a comment about a community nativity scene. That’s why her base is so pumped up: they’re the suburbanites that go to mega-churches and run their kids’ soccer leagues with an iron fist … and they feel like this is their chance to get one of their own near the White House.

She’s drunk on power, and the only reason she’s a “Washington outsider” is because she couldn’t get there any sooner.

That’s what some of the signs say.

This was the largest rally in Alaskan history.

We were musing about this over breakfast this morning. I think the anti-Palin crowd was mobilized by this Burke asshole’s comments; he’s pretty much a neo-Nazi on local AM radio, and his comments about the anti-Palin women being socialist baby-killing maggots really got people riled up. He apologized for the “maggot” portion, but stuck to his guns on the other.

Still, people here have been outraged before, but have NEVER shown up in these sorts of numbers. It may seem insignificant to those reading this, but 1500 people showing up at a pro-Democrat rally in a crimson red state that has one of the most apathetic constituencies in the country is actually hugely news-worthy. As in nation-wide newsworthy. Unfortunately, I doubt that the national media will cop to what this means locally, and its possible ramifications nationally. This could get extremely interesting by November.

If Goldberg and the OP are right, then it may be a necessary avenue of argument/attack for the Obama campaign. If Dems can demonstrate more of a connection to Bush than independents see at the moment, then they may have a good swing voter issue on their hands.

I don’t give him any credit for the Harvard MBA. They can grant him that without him earning it on the grounds that his grampy was a Sen and his Daddy was whatever he was at the time. Same with a law degree. Passing the bar means that Danny Quayle actually had it together for a few days in a row.

Bush was plucked out of nowhere(Texas) by Rove who calculated he could sell him to America. He was a surprise to most. Even his dad wanted Jeb to be the Bush of the big time.
Palin was plucked out of a small faraway state with little in common to the rest of America. Someone thought they could sell her to America.
Bush seemed overwhelmed and muddled. He acted like disagreements were personal attacks.
Palin seems over her head ,but driven and ambitious.
Both muddled through college, showing little intellectual curiosity.
Neither traveled abroad.
Both had to have handlers.

She’s pretty only by the standards of politicians. By normal human standards, she might rank in your top three most attractive high school teachers.

Someone’s under 40.

And I wish I went to your high school.

A plain rash? I woke up this morning with this in my head.

I seem to recall that Bush at least had a decent SAT score, indicating some native intelligence (though he’s never seemed keen on applying it).

How’d Palin do?

I think that part of W’s problem is brain damage from all the drugs and booze. I don’t think he was born stupid. The rest of his family isn’t stupid. I think he’s just got some Ozzy Syndrome going on. He pickled his brain.

I always thought Bush was pretending to be a bit stupid to appeal to the crowd neither appealed nor afflicted by evolution.

In my opinion, she looks less like a chimp than W. Otherwise, business as usual.

Nope, I’m 47.

She ranks well below by freshman English teacher, who was a major babe.

Seriously, this woman would only be considered “hot” in the context of a world filled with men with comb-overs. In the interest of balance, Barak Obama is handsome - for a politician. But he is no Denzel Washington.

I’m going to disagree. I think she’s a different archetype. W is a hustler; Palin, as I said in the other thread, is a Mean Girl.

One of the jobs I used to pay for college was administrative support in a smallish law firm (half a dozen attorneys). Two of them were very sharp, two of them were of about average intelligence, one of them was kind of slow, and one of them had the IQ of a lightly toasted bagel. Quite an eye-opening experience; just because someone got through law school and passed the bar, no conclusions about their smarts can be safely drawn.
