ISO: A Very Specific Word...Ug!

Does anyone know of an uncommon word to describe a person who is a master of multiple disciplines? I read it in a Wikipedia article about one of the genius scientist-mathematician dudes from either the 1800’s or 1900’s. I think the word for these geniuses was something like “multimaths” (plural form) or
“mathle-something”??? Any clue?

Maybe some SDoper can help jog my memory and bring this word to the surface. Meanwhile, I’ll keep searching my memory banks (and surfing the net). I’ll be checking back!

Polymath, probably.

Polymath

Polymath.

Bingo! That’s it…Ug! Brian farts stink! …and, so do brain farts! Thanks all for playing along at home!

I think Brian will be rather offended by that.

(yeah, I make enough typos of my own, I shouldn’t joke…)

I was hoping we’d get five or six more “polymaths” in before the OP returned. :frowning:

Oh, well.

One wonders why the word came so easily to so many.

I have a belief that there are a few people on this board who think of themselves as polymaths.

Some may actually just be good at trivia and common sense, but fancy themselves polymaths. I may be one of them.

if you had studied science and history of science then much of the core elements were developed by polymaths.

Well the OP did say it was something like “multimath”. Kind of made it easy if you had heard of the word.

No need to get all polydantic on us. :stuck_out_tongue:
